A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD
AUTHORIZING STAFF TO RELEASE A REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL TO HIRE A
PROFESSIONAL GEOLOGIST TO PROVIDE A GEOTECHNICAL REPORT AND
DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE SUBSIDENCE ON STATE STREET AND CEDAR
AVENUE
WHEREAS, the northeast corner of State Street and Cedar Avenue is showing
severe signs of area subsidence along the curb line, approximately 8 inches deep; and
WHEREAS, the subject area is bounded by the State Street curb and gutter on
the east and by an underground double Reinforced Concrete Box (RCB), 10' X 8' each,
located immediately below the State Street pavement section constructed around 1956;
and
WHEREAS, the observed distress, consisting of total pavement failure at the
north east corner of State Street and Cedar Avenue which is limited to a strip, 5 to 8
feet wide on the easterly side of State Street and approximately 30 to 40 feet in length
north of Cedar Avenue; and
WHEREAS, the. easterly side of State, Street has depressed sidewalk and
parkway, visible longitudinal cracks in the asphalt pavement, separation of concrete
curb ramp from the gutter, cracks in the concrete catch basin depression and separation
of concrete curbs; and
WHEREAS, the City would like to request proposals from consulting firms to
perform a geotechnical study to investigate the severe distress of the road section and
provide recommendations to restore the pavement section.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD DOES
HEREBY RESOLVE, DECLARE, DETERMINE AND ORDER AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. That the Lynwood City Council approves the request for proposals to
hire a professional geologist to provide a geotechnical report and determine the cause
of the subsidence on State Street and Cedar Avenue.
Section 2. That this Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
Section 3. The City Clerk shall certify as to the adoption of this Resolution.
