COMMUNITY RESOURCE COMMITTEE
Minutes: March 19, 2012
MEMBERS PRESENT:
Libby Bacon, Frank Kelly, Shelly Krueger, Sandy Major, Paul Wolff, Chantel Morton
MEMBERS ABSENT:
Don Ernst, Rusty Fleetwood, Jim Burke, Karen Kelly, Tommy Linstroth, Pat Locklear, Mallory
Pearce, Brad Sherman, Bill O’Brien, Judy Miller, Freda Rutherford, Lisa Callahan
VISITORS: Bill Cannon, Anise Estes
CALL TO ORDER:
Shelly called the meeting to order at 4:34 pm.
MINUTES FROM THE JANUARY MEETING:
Motion to approve January meeting minutes was deferred due to lack of quorum.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Infrastructure
Continuing to try to get beach showers installed at North Beach and working through
maintenance issues. Once properly installed, the project should be very low maintenance. Anise
will research the waterless toilets, which as far as we know are only available for urinals. Most
of the low flush toilets use one quart of water and odor is not an issue; the Publix on Wilmington
Island uses them in their bathrooms.
SB401
Buddy Carter pulled SB401 because it did not receive enough votes to move out of committee.
Next session he will reintroduce the bill. Paul will inform Buddy Carter the CRC is willing to
help him in any way regarding this bill. If there were some organized support from the CRC, it
would improve the chance of this bill moving forward next year. Dr. Sydney Smith is currently
operating a 2 kW solar array and selling the energy to Driftaway Café in Sandfly, which is a
violation under the current law. Smith wants to set up solar arrays in each county in Georgia.
Paul recommended we develop a strategy by October, reach out to Buddy Carter and Ben Watts
about local issues and get SB401 on the agenda again.
Waste Pro
Paul reported that the Waste Pro contract was approved for trash to continue pickup twice per
week and 96-gallon trashcans will be delivered in May for recycling, which will come every two
weeks. Chantel sent the Tybee dolphin logo to be on the trashcans. The larger recycling can will
have a list of what is allowed to be recycled on them. The commercial bid is still on CRC radar,
as it has not been bid yet.
2
Arts Building
The Mayor wants the CRC to give recommendations on the Arts building. An energy audit has
already been done, so Frank will talk with Diane about finding the audit. Paul has some ideas for
the Arts building that he will discuss at a later date.
NEW BUSINESS:
Anise will be gone for the summer but is still available via email for CRC research needs.
Shelly forwarded Paul information about an EPA local government advisory committee. Paul
expressed an interest in submitting a nomination package. She will forward the original email so
member can send letters of recommendation. Letters of recommendation are encouraged to
support his nomination. Note the deadline of March 26.
OLD BUSINESS:
It is recommended that the CRC conduct a workshop to redefine the goals and strategies of the
committee and find a new leader.
ADJOURN:
Frank made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 5:00 pm. The motion passed unanimously.
