HomeMy Public PortalAbout19290607CCMeeting116 Council decided to put into effect on DZay 25th 1929,the opening day of the season,a charge or contribution,of 25% per automobile, for each automobile entering the island,except automobiles of pro- perty owners,rentees and others whom it would.necessarybto emempt form the contribution,it was decided to collect this contribution daily until such time as it is deemed expedient to discontinue same, Mr. Logan and Buckley were appointed a committee to take charge of this work,formulate plans,hire necessayy men,and put the system into operation. The mayor informed Councul that some money should be spent in ad- vertising Tybee to the people of the interior,and Mr.Iorovitz made a motion that the Mayor be authorized to spend i 150.00 as he saw fit in advertising Tybee,which was seconded by Mr. Logan and passed. The mayor said that he had taken the matter of presenting a reso- lution in regard to levying a toll on the main highway on Tybee, at the next session of the Georgia Legislature, up with Mr. Myrick and that Mr iiyrich said that he would do everything that he possibly could. to put it through,and on motion of Mr. Walthour,seconded by Mr. Horovitz,the following resolution was passed; RESOLUTION. BE 22 RES3LVED,by the Mayor and Aldermen of the Town of Tybeci in council assembled,that the Town Attorney be requested to draft a bill presentation to the Georgia Legislature at its approaching session to authorize and empower the Town of. Tybee to''levy a toll on its main highway in order to secure funds for the protection of the Town's main highway on Tybee Island and the beach on Tybee Island from destruction by erosion,and the maintenance and preservation of the highway .for the use of the public. Bz IT FURTHER RESOLVrD, tha t the Senator from the First idstrict,and the three representatives from Chatham County,be re- quested to aid in securing the passage of such a measure. The regular meeting of Council was held to -day and was attended by the Mayor,who presided,and Councilmen Logan,Walthour,Horovitz, and Town Attorney McIntyre. As it was deemed advisable to change the name of Tybee to SAVANNAH BEACH it was decided to do so at the approaching session of the ueorgia Legislature,so Mr. Walthour male a motion that the Town' Attorney be requested draw up a resolution requesting the change, so that same can be presented by the senator from thh First District to the next session of the Georgia legislature,this was seconded by Mr. Logan,and• the motion passed. " As the automobile traffic to Tybec is increasing daily it has developed into a problem of where to park them and with this thougt in mind T1r. Walthour made a motion that Fourteenth street be opened and caved with some material that would give it a hard surface,from Butler Avenue to the Strand,to a width. o� about 35 feet,if the cost of same was not prohibitivelthis was seconded by Mr Logan and the motion pased.
