Bill recapped the February meeting, where there was discussion about police cars, need to communicate with the rental industry and get out quarterly reports to Council about energy savings. Barry Brown was going to be at the CRC meeting today, but did not appear. COMMITTEE REPORTS: Public Safety Building Bill and Kathryn met with Police Chief Bryson regarding the public safety building and need for new police vehicles. There have been several meetings with Bill, Kathryn, David and Shelly regarding purchasing new police vehicles. Paul said Diane Schleicher, Bill Bryson, Bill Garbett, _____________, and Wanda Doyle met with Richmond Hill to see their building. They met with __________________, engineer, and discussed reuse of materials from existing building. There cost involved for a LEED certification, and the public safety building can be built to the same standard and not pay for the certification. Building standards have improved. A LEED certified building will cost between $2.8 and $3.3 million. Discussion ensued about having the public safety building located on the south end of the island, which is where most of the problems occur, and having walking patrols on weekends. What were the mistakes made at the Wilmington Island police building? Apparently, the errors have been reviewed. Discussion ensued about the 911 service on Tybee and savings that could be achieved by using the City system. This would result in building savings as well as operating costs. Green Team – Chantel Chantel was at the Tourism Council meeting and discussed a flier and letter for the rentals that lists five key items that can be recycled, rules and regulations, and to reuse towels. It can be sent to guests prior to their stay and accessible in the room, and a magnet on the refrigerator. Waste WastePro recently provided a recycling insert that came with the water bill. How do tourists know if they are blue or green? Good idea to have a more informative recycling schedule for rentals. Can Tybee mandate a laminated brochure for tourists about what can be recycled? Would be good idea to develop a sheet that can be adapted by the rental companies to inform [Type text] their guests about recycling. Council will meet April 28th to vote on whether or not to add side- door pickup and change the recycling schedules. Chantel, Bill and Jane will work on trash. Energy Sandy is working on the energy figures to present at the Council meeting; she obtained these data from Jan. 2012 is completed and she has almost finished 2013. The average monthly temperature skews the results, wondering if Brad knows how to account for seasonally and annual temperature differences. Bill will present on 2012 Q3, Q4 and 2013 Q1. Space heaters are also an issue for accuracy, since they can use a lot of energy. Jan gave Sandy a website that may be helpful in the future.
