HomeMy Public PortalAbout20130715CRCMinutes.pdfCOMMUNITY  RESOURCE  COMMITTEE   Minutes  July  15,  2013   4:30  pm,  City  Hall     MEMBERS  PRESENT:   Shelly  Krueger,  Sandy  Major,  Chantel  Morton,  Freda  Rutherford,  Kathryn  Propst,   David  Turner     MEMBERS  ABSENT:   Frank  Kelly,  Mallory  Pearce,  Jim  Burke,  Tommy  Linstroth,  Pat  Locklear,  Bill  O’Brien,   Paul  Wolff     VISITORS:   Dean  Hardy  (Doctoral  Student,  Center  for  Integrative  Conservation  Research,  UGA)     ACTIONS  TAKEN:   • Bid  farewell  to  Shelly  Krueger,  who  is  moving  to  a  new  job  with  the  Florida   Sea  Grant.   • Elected  Kathryn  Propst  as  secretary  (position  vacated  by  Shelly).   • Approved  June  minutes.     ITEMS  DISCUSSED:   • Format  for  future  minutes:  list  of  actions  rather  than  transcript  of  meeting   • Procedure  for  submitting  minutes:  once  approved,  send  to  Jan  Leviner;   follow  up  with  Michael  Bodine  to  get  them  posted  to  website   • Dean  Hardy  is  in  town  for  2  weeks  to  interview  citizens  about  their   perceptions  of  sea  level  rise  as  part  of  his  dissertation  research.   • Police  car  project:  recap  of  visit  by  Tim  Eades  from  Belle  Meade,  TN  with  VW   Passat;  next  step  is  to  set  up  meeting  with  Mayor  and  Police  chief;  inquire   about  rates  for  financing   • Public  Safety  Building:  need  to  attend  Public  Safety  meetings  to  stay  in  the   loop   • Sea  Level  Rise  Adaptive  Practices:  is  it  logical/cost-­‐effective  to  re-­‐design   infrastructure  for  the  worst  case  if  the  island  will  not  be  habitable;  is  retreat   the  option  in  the  worst  case;  what  are  hurricane  preparedness  plans,  since   hurricane  is  very  likely;  Jason  Evans  will  be  providing  larger  printed  versions   of  the  vulnerability  maps  for  public  review   • King  Tide  project:  overview  and  concept;  possibilities  as  contest   • Energy  data  update:  latest  figures  and  data  are  not  making  sense   • Compost  &  rain  barrel  project:  overview;  probably  can  meet  the  minimum   order;  would  like  to  coordinate  with  America  Recycles  Day  (no  money  can   change  hands  at  ARD;  needs  to  be  pre-­‐order  pick  ups  only);  need  to  work  on   collecting  money  and  placing  order   • Solar  projects:  find  out  if  Public  Safety  Building  will  have  solar  capabilities;   what  is  electric  car  charging  station  status     " Green �Team �Report: �America �Recycles �Day �(ARD) �plans �proceeding �nicely. � � ACTIONS �AGREED �UPON: � " Freda �Rutherford �will �set �up �meeting �with �Mayor �and �Police �Chief �to �discuss � police �cars. � " David �Turner, �Kathryn �Propst, �and �Freda �Rutherford �will �attend �next �Public � Safety �meeting. � " Freda �Rutherford �will �collect �the �Sea �Level �Rise �vulnerability �maps �from � Jason �Evans. � " Kathryn �Propst �will �mock �up �a �King �Tide �Project �website. � " Sandy �Major �will �contact �Paul �Wolff �and �others �regarding �energy �reports. � " Kathryn �Propst �will �follow �up �with �Chris �Shook �from �the �Green �Team �on � using �their �account �for �collecting �compost �and �rain �barrel �orders. � � NEXT �MEETING: � � August �19, �2013, �4:30 �pm, �City �Hall � � � � � Prepared �by �KBP �
