A special meeting of Council was held today at 4:00 p.m. in Savannah office and was attended by the Mayor,who presided,and Councilmen Logan,Walthour,Espy and Mr. E.B.Iz1ar,C.E.Alexander and Mr. Joe Daniels :and Mr. Freft H.Haar. The Mayor informed Council that the reason he had called this meeting was to bring to its attention the dangerous condition of the Izlar bath houses as now exists, he had, also requested the other gentlemen to attende so that they could be heard in the matter too - -- the Mayor said that in its present condition it should either be repaired or condemned -- Mr. Izlar said that during the September gales his prop- erty was the first to give way other property followed everyone else was helped with convict labor except E.B.Izlar,he said that what the towmauthorities are trying to take away from him now represented 30 years of hart labor to acquire,he said that he would get busy at once and endeavor to repair his property as he did not want it condemned -- the Mayor said that Mr. Izlar was mistaken about not getting help from the Town -- Mr. Izlar said that he had gotten Judge Nest and Mr. Goodman together and had been promised help and that was the end of it -- The Mayor sadi that if another Northeaster came along now with a high tide that the building would go - -- Mr. Cann suggested that if Mr Izlar would get the necessary material that the Town let him have the convicts and would help him as far as possible -- Mr. Iziae was asked if he would be willing to bear his portion of the expense of putting down a bulk #ead through his property to .con- nect with the existing bulkhead and he said that he would - -- the Mayor said that the distance would be about 80 feet and would cost about . 560.00 --- Mr Cann asked Mr. Izlar not to feetlthat the Town was persecuting him, but that having regard for public, safety the Town should see- that the building is not left in its present unsafe condition for, if anything should happen to anyone the responsibility would rest with the Town - -- Mr.Izler said that he would get to work immediately and repair same;, - ®® T F rvr The Mayor then took the matter up relative to bulkheadng in front of the Strand between theIzlar Bathhouse and Fourteenth street,he said that he wanted the assurances of the property owners interested that they would be responsible for their portion of the cost of constructing this proposed.bulkhead,Mr. Izlar said that he would take care of his portion of the expense of putting down the bulkhead -- Mr. Alexander said that he would get in touch with the representatives of the McFadden estete - -- Mr.Logan said that it would take about two weeks before material ^could be assembled on the island -- the Mayor thanked I. nsrrs.Izlari,Alexander and Daniels for claming up and they were excused. The Mayor then too: up the matter of the bulkhead in front of the Breakers property with Mr. Haar,the Mayor informed him that the $ frontage of the property was 240 feet and would cost approximately 1440.00 half of which would be paid by the owners of the Breakers property - -- Mr. Haar said that his company would take care of their portion of the cost, - -- The Hotel Tybee property has a frontage of 480 feet and the cost of the bulkhead would be approximately 2880.00 half og which would be paid bybthe Owners of Hotel Tybee - -- Mr. Sharpley will be requested to draw up the plans and specifications of materials needed. There being no further business Council adjourned subject to the call of the Mayor. Clerk of Council Lavor_ • 110 Savannah Beach, Tybee Island,Ga. The regular meeting of Council 1,,as held to -day at attended bybthe Mayor,who presided,and Councilmen Walthour and Farr and Town Attorney McIntyre. The Mayor said that Mr. Sharpley had sent him a bile of material for the proposed bulk -head and he suggested that if the work is to be started in the near future it would be necessary for the Town to get a credit extension for at least a 120 days. The Mayor said he had been informed by Judge West that work had been started on the Tybee road today, that the County will take care of Campbell Street, Lieut. Hildreth has been instructed to put out Oleanders. He said that he had been in conference with Mr. Friedman, State highway engineer relative to getting material for 16th and 17th Streets and the Strand. A letter was received from Dr. H. W. Righton complimenting the Town authorities for the splindid work done during the past year. The Mayor suggested that it would be necessary to get at least three (3) carloads of gravel, and on motion of Mr. Horovitz that three (3) carloads of gravel be purchased, seconded by Mr. Walthour, the motion passed. February 7th 1930. 4:00 and was Logan,Hrorvitz, The Mayor said that the Town would need about three (3) lighters of oyster shells, the cost of which will be about $1500.00 with the privilege of paying for same next fall. The Mayor informed, Council that he had never received from Mr. A. F. Solms an ack- nowledgement of his encroachment on the Strand. Mr. McIntyre said he had received a letter from Mr. Solms but it was not ac- ceptable. There being no further business Council adjourned subject to the call of the Mayor. erk of Council. 125 Mayor. The Mayor informed Council that the notes covering demand loans made through the Citizens Trust Company were about to expire by the statute of limitations and that the bank had requested that new notes be made to take care of the existing indebtedness amount - ing to $1540.00, since the original notes were made the Citizens Trust Company has changed its name to the Citizens Bank and Trust Company and the Town of Tybee has changed its name to Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Ga.., on motion of Mr. Horovitz that the following resolution be passed, seconded by Mr. Walthour, motion passed.
