A special meeting of Council was held today at 4:00 p.m. and was .
attended by the Mayor kho presided, and Councilmen Logan, Horovitz,

received from Congressman Charles G. Edwards in which the suggestion
was made that the Fort Screven reservation be turned over to the
State of Georgia, to be used as a National Guard Camp, the Mayor
said that.he did not think this a wise policy and that the matter
was also being handled by the Savannah Chamber of Commerce and the
City of Savannah protesting against this move, he said if necessary
it would be much better to have Fort Screven _conferred into either
a Submarine. or Coast Guard base, he asked the opinion of Council on
these lines,. Mr. Horovitz made a motion that a resolution be drawn
up expressing the views of the Mayor and Councilmen of Savannah
Beach, Tybee Island, Ga., are opposed to the transfer of the Fort
Screven reservation to the State of Georgia, this was seconded by
Mr. Espy and motion passed.
