HomeMy Public PortalAbout19301219SCMeeting" " 149 Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Ga., December 19, 1930 A special meeting of Council was held today at 4:P.M. and was attended by .`.ayor Gamble, who presided, and Councilmen Farr, Walthour and Espy. The Mayor informed Council that the purpose of the meeting was that P. L. Maggioni and Co., were insisting that the Town give them a note to take care of our indebtness to them amounting to $3722.76 covering oyster shells purchased during the spring from them, Mr. Walthour made a motion that the Town give L. P. Maggioni and Co., a nin ;y day note bearing 7% interest to cover our indebtness, same was seconded by Mr. Farr and the motion passed. RESOLUTION. *Whereas there is now due the sum of $3722.76 to L. P. Maggioni and Co., a firm of Savannah, Chatham County, Georgia, by the Mayor and Councilmen of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Georgia, for oyster shells furnished by said L. P. Maggioni & Co., for road work on and in the roads of said municipality; AND Whereas the said L. P. Maggioni & Company has called upon said municipality for the payment of this account and said municipal corporation being temporarily out of funds, the said L. P. Maggioni & Companyhad requested that the note of said municipal corporation be issued to them in the said principal sum, bearing interest from date issued at the rate of seven percent (7 %) per annum, and being due flinty (90) days after date, with the understanding and upon the condition that upon the maturity of said note, the said municipal corporation by paying the accumulated interest thereon has a right to renew the same for a further period of ninety (90) days and at the same rate of interest. NOW, THEN, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Councilmen of said Savannah Beach, do issue a certain promiss4ty note to the order of L. P. Magioni & Company of Savannah, Georgia, in the sum of $3722.76 and due ninety (90) days after date and bearing interest from date at the rate of 7% per annum, im full settlement of the account iue by said municipal corporation to the said L P. Maggioni & Company for oyster shells furnished for road and street building, as appears upon the statements of account furnished said corporation now on file Yith the Clerk of Council hereof, and that upon the maturity of said note, the said corporation to renew the same for a further period of ninety (9000) days at the rate of 7% per annum, by paying the interest which will then have accumulated upon said note. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Mayor be and he is hereby authorized in the name of said corporation to sign said note and to cause the seal of said corporation; to be thereunto affixed, attested by the Treasurer thereof. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a certified copy of this resolution be attached to and made a part of said note." There being no further business, Council adjourned subject to the call of the Mayor. 150 Clerk of i Mayor. Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Ga., January 9, 1931 The regular meeting of Council was held today at 4:P. M., and was attended by Mayor Gamble who presided, and Councilmen Farr, Walthour, Horowitz, Logan and Cann, Town Attorney McTntyre and Rioux of the Remington Rand Company. The Mayor requested Mr. Rioux to explain his proposition in reference to the Fire Proof Safe his company desires to install in the Towns office, Mr. Eioux explained the merits of his safe, that, they would stand a four hour fire test, that would safeguard the Towns records which if destroyed by fire,would be impossib e- - - -- to replace, he called attention to the fact that he was requested by Mr. Buckley to go into the details of the matter and ascertain exactly what the Towns requirements were, and he figured that the safe - cabinet #54 would take care of the Towns matters, Mr. Rioux was then dismissed, the Mayor appointed Messrs. Walthour, and Logan as special committee to investigate the matter and the authority to act. The Savannah Planing Mill Company requested the Mayor to make; payment on our past due account with them, and suggested that we give them a note, Mr. Walthour made motion that the Mayor handle it to the best advantage, this was seconded by Mr. Horovita and the motion passed. Mr. E. A. Gallette has pettioned that he be reimbursed for a septic tank that was removed from his property, but no action was taken in the matter. The Mayor informed the Council that it would probally be necessary to negotiate a loan of not over .2500.00, to take care of a casual deficiency now existing. Therefore Mr. Walthour made a motion that the Mayor be given the authority to borrow the required amount from any bank in the city, this was seconded by Mr. Horovitz and the motion unanimously carried. RESOLUTION RESOLVED that the Mayor be and he is hereby authorized and directed, for the purpose of supplying a casual deficiency in revenue now existing, to borrow from such bank or banks of the City of Savannah as may be selected by him, the sum of Twenty- five hundred 42500.00) Dollars for such time and upon such terms as the Mayor shall agree upon and to evidence sail loan by executing in the name of and on • behalf of the Mayor and Councilmen of the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Ga., a note or notes not exceeding in the aggregate the principal sum of Twenty -five Hundred 42500.00) Dollars and that said note or notes shall be excuted under the official seal of the Mayor and Councilme of the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Ga., attested by the Clerk of Council.
