AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF MCCALL, VALLEY COUNTY, IDAHO, PROVIDING
FOR THE RESTRICTION OF THE SPEED OF VEHICLES ON THE WESTERN PORTION
OF STATE HIGHWAY 55 WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS OF THE CITY OF MCCALL,
IDAHO; PRESCRIBING A PENALTY FOR VIOLATIONS THEREOF; REPEALING
CONFLICTING ORDINANCES; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the terrain and slope of State Highway 55 at the western edge of the city limits of
the City of McCall, Idaho, combined with highway access from residential subdivisions and
other development, creates a risk to motorists and bicyclists using the highway and those
entering the highway from adjacent development; and
WHEREAS, numerous residents of McCall, and Valley County residents that regularly travel
this section of highway, have requested that the City lower the speed limit on State Highway 55
between the western edge of the city limits to the intersection of Boydstun Street and the
highway; and
WHEREAS, the City has conducted a speed study of this section of State Highway 55; and
WHEREAS, lowering the speed limit on this stretch of highway will promote the health, safety
and welfare of motorists and bicyclists and reduce the demand for emergency services that must
respond to accidents on that stretch of highway.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF MCCALL, VALLEY COUNTY, IDAHO:
Section 1: It shall be unlawful for any person to drive any vehicle upon State Highway
55, beginning at mile marker 145.275 and ending at mile marker 145.75, at a speed in excess of
twenty-five (25) miles per hour.
Section 2: It shall be unlawful for any person to drive any vehicle upon State Highway
55, beginning at mile marker 145.75 and ending at mile marker 146.35, at a speed in excess of
thirty-five (35) miles per hour.
Section 3: It shall be unlawful for any person to drive any vehicle upon State Highway
55, beginning at mile marker 146.35 and ending at mile marker 147.021, at a speed in excess of
forty-five (45) miles per hour.
Section 4: Any person who violates the provisions of this ordinance shall be guilty of an
infraction offense and upon conviction thereof, shall be fined in a fixed sum as set forth in Rule
9(5)(a) and (b) of the Idaho Infraction Rules.

Section 5: That all ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict with this ordinance, are
hereby repealed.
Section 6: That this ordinance shall take effect and be in full force upon its passage,
approval, and publication.
Section 7: If any provisions of this ordinance shall be deemed illegal or unenforceable,
such determination shall not operate to invalidate the remaining provisions of this ordinance.

PASSED BY THE CITY OF McCALL, IDAHO
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF MCCALL, VALLEY COUNTY, IDAHO, PROVIDING
FOR THE RESTRICTION OF THE SPEED OF VEHICLES ON THE WESTERN PORTION
OF STATE HIGHWAY 55 WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS OF THE CITY OF MCCALL,
IDAHO; PRESCRIBING A PENALTY FOR VIOLATIONS THEREOF; REPEALING
CONFLICTING ORDINANCES; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
This ordinance reduces vehicular speeds on State Highway 55, at the western edge of the city
limits, and in particular to reduce speeds within the following mile markers: Mile marker
145.275 and ending at mile marker 145.75, a speed of twenty-five (25) miles per hour; Mile
marker 145.75 and ending at mile marker 146.35, at a speed of thirty-five (35) miles per hour;
and Mile marker 146.35 and ending at mile marker 147.021, at a speed of forty-five (45) miles
per hour. This ordinance also provides for violation as an infraction offense and upon conviction
thereof a person shall be fined a fixed sum as set forth in Rule 9(5)(a) and (b) of the Idaho
Infraction Rules.
The Ordinance shall be effective upon its passage, approval and publication as required by law.
