Welcome Cindy Thatcher,
our new Full-time COA Outreach Coordinator!
We are pleased to announce that Cindy Thatcher has joined our
COA Outreach Team to advocate for and provide our seniors with
social services resources. Some of you might remember Cindy from
the past, as she was our Elder Services Nutrition Rep for the Meals
on Wheels Program, as well as Senior Dining. She has been work-
ing at Elder Services for 17 years and she brings a lot of knowledge
to our COA Team. Stop in to meet her the next time you are in the
building.
Good-bye to Regina Egan
It is a bittersweet time for all of us as Regina has decided to
retire. After 6 ½ years of managing “Command Central”, we will
[certainly miss her laughter and smile at the Front Desk. We wish
her the best while she and her husband Charlie enjoy their new
[adventures
Thank You to the Friends of Brewster Elders
Our kitchen refrigerator was showing its age, so we decided to
purchase a new one. Therefore, we are shouting out a ‘BIG THANK
YOU” to the Friends group for purchasing it for our Senior Center.
Do You Need a Ride to the Elections?
Want to go and vote in person for the State Elections on Tuesday,
November 8? If so, please call the COA at 508-896-2737 to
schedule a ride. Also, we will provide rides to and/or from Town
Meeting on Monday, November 14 which begins at 6:00pm.
Please call us by noon on Wednesday, November 9th. Rides are
available during the entirety of Town Meeting.
Set Your Clocks Back
Turns out you CAN turn back time! Daylight Saving time ends on
Sunday, November 6. Remember to set your clocks back one hour
and check the batteries in your smoke detectors too!
Finally…
After 2 ½ years of a modified schedule, the Brewster COA is
back to being open to the public 5 days per week from 8:00am-
4:00pm. Stop by during our work hours to say ‘Hi!’ and check out all
the great things we’ve got going on!
Holiday Gifting & Events
1. “Homeless for the Holidays”
Brewster Fire Department at Our Lady of the Cape Chapel
parking lot, 2580 Main St. (Route 6A) December 7 – 11.
They will be collecting unwrapped toys for all ages as well as non-
perishable foods to be donated to the Family Pantry, and monetary
donations for the Lower Cape Outreach Council.
2. “Toys for Tots”
Brewster Fire Dept., 1671 Main St. Beginning in November
They will also be collecting new, unwrapped toys in the lobby of the
Brewster Fire Station.
3. “Holiday Gifting”
Brewster Recreation Dept. Adopt-a-Family program with the
Homeless Prevention Council. For more information on how to
participate in this holiday gifting, please call Mike Gradone at
508-896-9430.
4. “Brewster for the Holidays” will be held
December 2-4. (1st weekend of the month)

Medicare Overview and Open Enrollment Presentation
Tuesday, November 1 1:00 – 2:00pm FREE
Medicare’s Open Enrollment Period is happening right now -
October 15 to December 7. Join Bill Redmond, SHINE Program
Manager, for a presentation on Medicare and open enrollment.
Plans change every year so it’s important to stay up to date; a re-
view of your plans could save you money! This is for Medicare Ben-
eficiaries, family members, caregivers, caseworkers, and represent-

Meditation Class
Thursdays, beginning November 3 10:00 – 11:00am
In person meditation is back! Join Carol Marcy, certified meditation
teacher for an in person meditation class (which will also continue to
be offered online). The meditations are for both beginner and expe-
rienced practitioners. Through the use of deep breathing techniques
and nature based imagery, we invite an inner awareness. This heart
-centered practice focuses on the immense benefits of grounding
and balancing the flow of energy through the body. It brings health
and wellbeing to all the systems of the body, as well as a deep
sense of calmness and peace. Please wear loose clothing and bring
a meditation pillow if you prefer to sit on the floor. Slow easy
movement meditations may be included if it works for the group.

Hearty Chili & Stews
Friday, November 4 11:30am - 1:00pm FREE
Nothing says comfort food like homemade chili and beef stew. Lose
the Dinty Moore and come join Dave of Therapy Gardens and learn
how to make a variety of chilis and stews. Vegetarian options will
also be reviewed as well, and recipes and small samples will be
provided. Please pre-register by calling the COA at

Hip Hop Dance Chair Exercise Class
Friday, November 4 1:30 – 2:30pm FREE
Postponed from October, join Rondae Drafts, Ph.D. abd, and Exec-
utive Director of MusicDance for a 1 hour chair dance class. Travel
through time on the “Soul Train” using clean-cut hip hop and rhythm
and blues songs. Creative props, drums and African maracas will be
utilized during the class to make this journey of dance come to life.

Survival Spanish for Beginners
Mondays, November 7 – December 12 9:30 – 11:00am
$60 for 6 week series, includes phrase book and handouts
Hola Amigos! Have you always wanted to learn another language?
This is your opportunity to learn basic survival Spanish, the lan-
guage spoken by 400 million people around the world. The instruc-
tor has over 30 years as a Spanish professor and loves to share her
enthusiasm for the language and culture. You will learn pronuncia-
tion and how to form questions and statements on everyday topics
such as greetings, food, family, travel, health, hobbies and shop-

Protecting Your Personal Information Online
Monday, November 7 1:30 – 2:45pm FREE
Join Elenita Muniz of Senior Planet as she discusses the ins and
outs of how to protect your personal information online. She’ll cover
tips for staying safe in cyberspace, like safe browsing, how to recog-
nize online scams, and when it’s okay – or not – to share your per-
sonal information online. This program is made possible by AARP

You’re not alone! Consumer Scams and Your Rights
Wednesday, November 9 1:00 – 2:00pm FREE
Scams are becoming increasingly prevalent in our
daily lives. This presentation by Attorney Andrew
Bardetti of South Coastal Counties Legal Services
(SCCLS) will cover some popular scams and discuss steps you can
take to protect yourself. Andrew will also discuss how SCCLS and
other organizations can help you if you’ve been targeted by a scam.

Express Yourself! Collage and Mixed Media Art
Thursdays: November 10 - December 15 9:30 - 11:00am

$90 for 5-week series
The creative process is a wonderful way of freeing up
the mind and getting to the heart and soul of the
matter. It’s like going on an adventure.
Jennifer Stratton will facilitate you on this five week
journey using collage and mixed media projects as a
vehicle to let your inner artist out. Each week Jennifer
will provide some historical and contemporary context and tech-
niques in relation to this art form. Each person will be able to create
a project based on whatever techniques are discussed that day.

Massachusetts National Cemetery Trip
Thursday, November 10 9:00am – 12:30ish FREE
In honor of Veterans Day, please join us on a visit to the Massachu-
setts National Cemetery. We will visit the visitor center and the
Memorial Trail, and if there is a grave you would like to visit, let us
know and we will make it happen. Space is limited. Please call the

Mah Jongg Day!
Monday, November 14 1:00 – 5:00pm
Donation fee: $10
Calling all Mah Jongg players! Come join us on Mah Jongg Day! It's
the first of many great times. Tables will be set up for four and you
can play at your pace and your style. It will be a fun afternoon with
door prizes and refreshments. Play with your friends or meet new

Wild Care Talk on Snowy Owls
Wednesday, November 16
1:00 – 2:00pm FREE
Please join us for a presentation with Stephanie Ellis, Executive
Director of Wild Care, a wildlife rehabilitation hospital located on
Cape Cod, in Eastham, MA. Stephanie will discuss the journey
of Snowy Owls from the Arctic to the shores of Cape Cod and how
our Cape community can contribute to the safety and survival of
these incredible creatures. She will also discuss their life cycle and
behavior and why they spend their winters in New England.

Makepeace Farms Café and Gift Shop Trip
Friday, November 18

Join us for a cranberry-themed field trip as we travel to Wareham to
have lunch at Makepeace Farms and shop in their gift shop where
you can find unique gifts or gourmet food items with a cranberry

Join Sue Landers, a licensed Nia Black Belt Instructor for a 6-week
series of Nia. Nia combines nine different movement techniques
from dance arts, martial arts, and healing arts to give participants a
full mind, body and spirit workout. With diverse music from around
the world, Nia is a non-impact movement technique that focuses on
improving flexibility, agility, mobility, strength and stability. Nia is for

Walking Club

Join us as we explore the various walking/hiking trails around the
Cape. All levels of walkers are welcome, with trails being easy to

Hearts and Paws Pet Therapy

Do you love dogs but don’t have one and miss being able

program where Hearts and Paws Comfort Dogs will once a month
bring some of their furry friends to spend time with us. You need a

Crafts with Lucille

Come join Lucille on the third Monday of each
month from 10:00 to 11:00am for a fun hour of crafting,

Stepping Stones to Fitness
6 week program: Fridays, 11:00am – 12:00pm
December 2 – January 6 FREE
An exercise program designed to keep you active through the
winter! This free progressive exercise program teaches participants
basic home exercises to improve strength and endurance, keeping
you independent and confident to exercise! Participants must be
able to safely ambulate, though a low tolerance to walking/standing
is acceptable. Home exercise programs can be done with or without
the use of equipment. Instructed by Nikki Courtney, Exercise Physi-
ologist with the VNA of Cape Cod. Classes will be held at the COA
but advanced registration - including medical clearance - is

Wish you could learn to draw – quickly and simply? Join experi-
enced Art Educator Pamela Quirinale for three fun sessions.
Pamela designed this drawing program for parents and grandpar-
ents to do at home, with their families, and for those on any kind of
budget. In each lesson, you will learn how to draw 3 different
subjects with simply a pencil, eraser, and white paper. Each
instruction page has 2 sections; one for adults and teens, and the
other for young children – enabling you to share this project at home
with kids and grandkids. These drawing lessons are fun, informa-
tive, and will build your confidence in drawing – and help you with

Games and Coffee
Fridays, starting December 2 1:30 – 3:30pm
Calling all board gamers and card players! Come have some fun
with friends and meet new people for some rummikub, canasta,
scrabble, mah jongg, or whatever your game vice is! We have plen-
ty of decks of cards but are limited in board games, so please call
ahead to see what we have and feel free to bring your own as well!

Make Your Own Holiday Spice Mix
Monday, December 5 11:00am – 12:00pm
Spices have a special power to evoke memories of time with friends
and family. Whether it’s the aroma of Thanksgiving stuffing or a
warm glass of spiced cider, nothing compares to the scents and
flavors of the holiday season. Come join Dave of Therapy Gardens
and learn how to make pumpkin spice, mulling spices for wine or
cider, and other holiday spice blends. Participants will leave with
their own blend of a holiday spice mixture, along with recipes for
other mixtures. Everyone gets 1 custom spice packet. Additional
custom packets available for a small fee. To pre-register, please call

Gardens Aglow! Trip
Friday evening, December 9 4:30pm
Cost: $17 per ticket, only 2 tickets per person allowed
Gardens Aglow at Heritage Museums and Gardens is a celebration
of lights that has become a treasured holiday tradition. This event
features beautiful light displays throughout the gardens, festive sea-
sonal décor, and fun activities for all. Gardens Aglow is ADA
accessible, with complimentary transportation however please
note, an able-bodied assistant must attend as well, as staff will
not be available for assistance with mobility issues. Seats are
limited to 12 and payment is required in advance. Please call the

Eddy Elementary School Chorus Concert
Thursday, December 15 9:00am
Come join us as we ring in the holidays with the
Eddy elementary school chorus! The chorus consists of fourth and
fifth grade students who meet every Thursday for an hour after
school under the direction of Stacey Faris, who is also the general
music teacher for grades K-5 in Brewster. Call the COA at 508-896-

Movie Matinee at Serenity Apartments: ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’

What Holiday season would be complete without watching at least
one time, ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’! Join us for an afternoon showing of
this classic film at Serenity Apartments of Brewster. Light refresh-

Meet at the COA bus at 9:15am
Looking for a new place do some holiday shopping? Then come
along and join us on a trip to Mashpee Commons! Explore the
shops at your own pace and choose for yourself where you want to
have lunch. Meet up time to return to the COA will be at 2:30pm.

sible but if you need assistance, an able-bodied assistant must

Autumn Knight, our pedicure nurse, has a lot of experience in the
field and works for Cape Cod Healthcare in their clinical education
department. In addition to being a RN, she is also a Certified Foot
Care Nurse/Specialist. Usually occurring on the first Friday of each
month, 20-minute appointments are available from 9am to 2:30pm

Blood Pressure and Glucose Testing

The Barnstable County Public Health Nursing program provides
services here at the COA on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each
month. A Public Health nurse will take your blood pressure and
check glucose if needed. This program is offered on a drop-in basis
and includes the opportunity to speak with the nurse regarding any

Advanced Audiology Associates offers FREE screenings
here at the Brewster Council on Aging. Screenings are by appoint-

Intermediate Tai Chi
Mondays & Thursdays

This class is geared toward folks who have
some experience with Tai Chi and are famil-
iar with the Tai Chi Eight Form. Also known
as “moving meditation” Tai Chi can help
improve balance, core strength, flexibility,
and provide a mind-body connection as a
source for stress relief. Classes will incorpo-
rate stretching warm-ups, Qi Gong breathing
exercises, and an exploration of Traditional
Chinese Medicine concepts for healing and
vitality. During better weather we meet out-
doors at the ball field behind the COA.

Qi Gong
Tuesdays 9:00 – 10:00am FREE
Qi Gong is a form of exercise that dates
back 3000 years and is not a martial art.
The forms used in this class are therapeutic,
involving slow, repetitive movements which
incorporate meditation, deep breathing and
visualization. Many of the movements can
be done while sitting. Qi is energy we use
and which needs to be replaced with fresh
Qi. The movements deal with our meridians
to relieve and support various organs. We
meet at the Brewster COA and at Drummer
Boy Park (warmer weather permitting). Our
participants enjoy the social aspect of these
meetings as well as the physical benefits.

This program is primarily strength-training
for seniors. The classes are friendly, and a
fun way to relieve arthritis symptoms while
learning important strengthening exercises.

and balance each week by using hand and
leg weights, balls and bands.

Senior Tax Work-Off
Program
The Senior Real Estate Tax
Abatement Program matches municipal
volunteer opportunities in the Town of Brew-
ster with eligible senior citizens who are
qualified and able to volunteer their services
in exchange for a reduction in their real es-
tate tax bill. In exchange for 67 hours of vol-
unteer service, the Town will abate the an-
nual real estate property tax by $1000.*
(*less mandatory deductions), OR in ex-
change for 33.5 hours of volunteer service,
the Town will abate the annual real estate
property tax by $500.* (*less mandatory de-
ductions). You need to complete the volun-
teer hours by September 1, 2023.
Are you eligible?
You are a Town of Brewster Taxpayer
who is age sixty (60) or older
You are a homeowner and occupant as
of July 1st of the prior calendar year for
the property that the abatement is
requested.
You have owned and occupied real
estate in Brewster for the preceding five
(5) years
There is a limit of one (1) Senior Real Estate
Tax Abatement per property. Residents may
only participate in either the Senior Tax
Work-Off OR Veterans Work-Off Program,
not both.
Priority will be given to those residents
whose annual income is less than $56,682 if
single or $64,788 if married and to residents
who have not previously participated in the
program.
You must be current with payment of all
Town taxes.
Application deadline is Friday, December 2.

picked up at the COA or found on the

This popular program serves all
eligible Brewster seniors, providing

(behind the building) between 10:30am and
12:00pm. Brewster’s date is always the sec-
ond Wednesday of each month, so the next
dates will be Wednesday, November 9 and
Wednesday, December 14. Please call the

Medical Equipment Loans
Our medical shed is open
Monday - Friday, 8am - 4pm, for
equipment pick up. If we have what you are
looking for you are welcome to take it. There
is no cost and no set return date.
If you find you no longer need the item,
please return it to us in clean, working
order. We also welcome donations of clean,
durable medical equipment in good work-
ing order. If donating, please call the COA
first at 508-896-2737 to tell us what you are
bringing.
Senior Shellfish Licenses
Senior Shellfish Licenses are available at the
COA office, 8:00am to 4:00pm Mondays thru
Fridays. Please bring your driver’s license
(showing that you are at least 70 years of
age).
If your license does not have a Brewster
address, please bring a copy of your latest
tax bill to show you are a Brewster resident.
Licenses are a one-time charge of $5.00 (we
accept check or cash) and never expire!

SHINE Notes:
Medicare’s Open Enrollment is
here...don’t wait until it’s too late!
The Open Enrollment Period (Oct 15th – Dec 7th) for
Medicare Advantage Plans (Part C) and Prescription Drug Plans
(Part D) is under way and it is very important to re-evaluate your
Medicare options for 2023 during this period. Each year Medicare
plans can change premiums, deductibles, co-pays and the prescrip-
tion formulary (list of drugs they cover). In addition, Medicare
Advantage Plans (HMOs, PPOs) often add and/or drop primary and
specialty physicians, skilled nursing facilities and hospitals.
Your current plan is required to notify you by September 30th of any
changes for the coming year. You should have received this letter
and read through it. It does contain the premium for 2023. Some
people did not read their letter for 2022 and did not realize, until too
late, their premiums doubled.
If you decide to keep your current plan, no further action is required.
Changes to your Medicare Advantage Plan or Medicare Prescription
Drug (Part D) Plan during the Open Enrollment Period take effect
January 1, 2023. (Please note - this enrollment period may not
affect you if you have retiree coverage through a former job).
SHINE appointments fill up quickly so don’t forget to call your senior
center as soon as possible (Brewster COA: 508-896-2737). The
Regional SHINE office is also available to help. If you would like the
Regional SHINE office to assist you, please call 508-375-6762 for a
telephone appointment. You may also contact Medicare directly at
1-800-633-4227. They are available 24 hours, 7 days a week.
This may also be the time of year when you have hit the gap,
formerly the “donut hole”, and your medication costs have jumped.
Fortunately, there are programs that may be able to assist with
these costs. Please call the Regional SHINE office or talk with the
SHINE counselor at your local Senior Center to learn about these
assistance programs.
Remember- don’t wait until it is too late. If you don’t change your
Part D plan during the Open Enrollment Period (Oct 15th- Dec 7th),
your 2022 plan will be your 2023 plan. Let SHINE help you navigate
through the 2023 plan changes.
Are You Ready for the
Busy Holiday Season?
November and December seem to
roll around more quickly each year,
leaving less and less time to get
ready for the many holidays that span the last two months of the
year. If you’re still into decorating and hosting on any scale, it takes
plenty of planning and plenty of time. Savor and stretch out the work
and you’ll enjoy it more. Generally people (relatives and friends) are
kinder and gentler when shared memories are recalled over a nice
dinner. All by yourself? There are many organizations that provide a
nice dinner and companionship during the holiday season. Once
their schedules are announced, we hope to include them in the up-
coming newsletters.
Meanwhile, December is shaping up to be a fun-filled month for
members of the Friends of Brewster Elders. On Sunday, December
4th, we’ll be heading down to Hyannis to enjoy seasonal entertain-
ment provided by the Cape Symphony for the 1 PM seating. For
those who can’t or don’t want to drive, we will be providing transpor-
tation to the traditional Symphony Holiday on the Cape event, which
is routinely sold out. Special guests this year include ViVA Trio, an
award-winning all-female vocal group that takes their own classical-
to-pop crossover approach to freshen up holiday favorites. The
Cape Symphony Dance Company will perform classic scenes from
The Nutcracker and the Chatham Chorale rounds out the program.
As always, it should be a wonderful afternoon.
We’re also pleased to announce, too, that our traditional Holiday
Luncheon will be held once again at the Old Yarmouth Inn on
Thursday, December 15th at 1 PM.
Tickets and complete details for both events will be provided in the
November FOBE newsletter. What? You aren’t a member yet? It’s
truly the best deal around! Don’t miss out on events and discounted

Senior Fitness Hour
“Senior Fitness Hour” is found on Channel 99 of Lower Cape Community Access TV for older adults in the communities of Brewster,
Orleans, Eastham, Wellfleet, and Truro. It is the result of a collaborative effort between Lower Cape TV and the Councils on Aging in
these communities. Every weekday there will be fitness classes featuring instructors from various senior centers. From 10:00 - 10:30am,

Senior Swim at Brewster Green!
We are so grateful to the new management team at Brewster Green for allowing our seniors to participate in Senior Swim every Friday
from 10:00am to 12:00noon.There is a fee of $1.00 per swim, payable to the COA and collected through an honor system (stop by once a
month to pay). To be eligible to swim, you must be 60+ and come to the Senior Center to register, sign a waiver and regulation form. You
will receive a list of the resort’s rules at that time. It is very important that all participants adhere to Brewster Green’s rules to make it a
positive experience for all.
In addition, the resort reserves the right to cancel Senior Swim during holiday periods when their paying guests are in town, such as
Thanksgiving Week, Christmas Week and New Year’s Week, and other holiday weeks as needed. Happy Swimming!

The Holidays sent me to the ER- (Risk of holiday overindulgence/CHF)
Many of us look forward to the holiday season - opportunity to travel, time together with loved ones, and the big holiday feast. Research
suggests increased cardiac morbidity and heart failure exacerbations during winter months, with a peak around the holiday season. All too
often we get out of our routines of regular exercise, portioned meals, and timely medication administration and it costs us in the long run.
Gluttony with excessive ingestion of high caloric and heavily sodium -filled foods takes precedence over diet compliance and self-
management of chronic cardiac conditions.
In addition to dietary slip ups, the holidays tend to be a time of high stress. This combination can lead to a congestive heart failure epi-
sode, which generally requires hospitalization for proper management of. Congestive heart failure (CHF) is a chronic, progressive condi-
tion in which the heart muscle is unable to pump enough blood to meet the body's needs for blood and oxygen. Basically, the heart can't
keep up with its workload. Excessive eating and drinking holiday goodies increases heart rate and blood pressure and forces your heart to
work harder. A strained heart increases incidence of arrhythmia (abnormal heart rhythm), heart attack, and congestive heart failure. Signs
that your heart isn’t working as it should include: progressive shortness of breath, swelling of the lower extremities and increases in body
weight.
The holidays don’t have to end for those with cardiac conditions; they can still be enjoyable times if some mindful actions are put into
place before the big day. Take proactive actions such as talking openly to those you share the holidays with about the importance of
maintenance of routine and not over-indulging because of the danger it can have. Other conditions to remain healthy through the holidays
include getting regular exercise, staying properly hydrated, taking prescribed medications, drinking alcohol in moderation, and being
selective with the intake of salty and sugary foods.

There are three Congressional Medal of Honor recip-
ients buried here on Cape Cod; two at the National
Cemetery in Bourne, and one at Swan Lake Cemetery,
Depot Street, Dennis Port. At the National Cemetery
are Hospital Corpsman Richard DeWert, USNR (1931-
1951) killed during the Korean War while attached to
the 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines and SFC Jared C. Monti,
United States Army, killed in Afghanistan June 21,
2006.
Benjamin Franklin Baker, March 12, 1858 - May 19,
1927,is the only Medal of Honor recipient from Cape
Cod, born and raised in Dennis Port. He joined the Unit-
ed States Navy in 1885 and served as a Coxswain
aboard the USS Nashville during the Spanish-American
War. On May 11, 1898, Baker and 13 other volunteers
went over the side of the USS Nashville, climbed into
several small open boats and paddled quietly into Cien-
fuegos Harbor, Cuba, where several U.S. Battleships ,
including the USS Massachusetts, were participating in
a blockade of the Spanish fleet. The mission was to find
and cut the Trans-Atlantic telegraph cables that linked
the Spanish commanders in Cuba with Spain. Baker
and his fellow sailors cut two large cables. His CMOH
Citation reads, “On board the U.S.S. Nashville during
the cutting of the cable leading from Cienfuegos, Cuba,
May 11, 1898. Facing the heavy fire of the enemy,
Baker set an example of extraordinary bravery and
coolness throughout this action.”
Should you visit Coxswain Baker’s gravesite at the
Swan Lake Cemetery, bring along some pennies to lay
on the gravestone to show your respect in that you
have visited. Military tradition on coins on veteran’s
gravestones is as follows: “A coin left on a headstone
lets the deceased soldier's family know that somebody
stopped by to pay their respect. A penny means you
visited; A nickel means you and the deceased veteran
trained at boot camp together; A dime means you and
the deceased veteran served together in some capaci-
ty; A quarter is very significant because it means that
you were there when that veteran died.” If you look
closely at the photo above you will see a shiny penny at
the top of the gravestone. I visited last month.

The COA has a quantity of adult disposable incontinence products
in various sizes. If you know someone who could use them, don’t
hesitate to give us a call at 508-896-2737, or just stop by. Let us
know what size you’re looking for. If we’ve got them we will be
happy to give them to you!
Transportation Notes from the Brewster COA:
Due to demand, the Brewster COA regrets that we are unable to
accommodate grocery shopping or other errand requests from our
friends residing at assisted living facilities. However, we are happy
to still offer rides to routine medical appointments as far as
Hyannis (we cannot supply rides for any procedures).
All rides are free of charge, although we do request a donation to
offset the cost of gas. Appointments should be booked between
the hours of 9:00am and 2:00pm. We do require a 4 business
day notice. This service is provided by volunteers using their own
private vehicles. Our volunteers will not accompany you at your
actual appointment, however we welcome caregivers to ride
along.

If you are wheel-chair bound, we require a 7 business day notice
in order to find a van driver for you.

TRANSPORTATION INFORMATION
All riders must be 60+
COA VAN - We offer trips for Grocery Shopping in Orleans on Mondays and
Wednesdays, from 11:00am to 1:00pm. We require a minimum of 2 business
days notice. There is a maximum of 6 people per trip. A suggested donation of $2
is accepted for this service. Please call the COA to schedule your ride at 508-896-
2737. NOTE: This service is not available to residents of assisted living facilities.
MEDICAL & DENTAL APPOINTMENTS - Volunteer drivers are available for
transport to routine medical appointments in their personal cars. We travel as far
as Hyannis and regret we cannot accommodate patients having procedures.
Please call the COA at 508-896-2737 as soon as you make an appointment or at
least 4 business days (Monday thru Friday: weekends do not count) in ad-
vance so that we can schedule your ride. Please notify the COA if you can’t keep
your appointment so we can notify our driver. Donations are accepted for this ser-
vice. All appointments should be booked for times between 9:00am and 2:00pm.
WHEELCHAIR-ACCESSIBLE MEDICAL VAN – Transportation to medical appoint-
ments is provided by a staff person, Monday through Friday.
A one-week advanced reservation is required. Donations are accepted for this

DART - DIAL-A-RIDE TRANSPORTATION Service: CCRTA provides a daily, general public-demand response service that is wheelchair-
accessible, door-to-door, and ride-by-appointment. This service is available to all Cape Cod residents and is available Monday through Saturday in all
towns, with limited Sunday service. Rides must be scheduled by no later than noon on the day prior to a ride. Rides can be scheduled up to 30 days in
