The American Oil Company has very kindly agreed to let the Town
have all of its refuse oil drained from crank cases at its various
fIllIn stations and. has also agreed to distilate to the Town for
five cents per gallon.
Mr. W. P. Brooks took the oath of office as Councilman as follows:
I, William J. Brooks, do solemny swear that I will faithfully and
honestly perform the duties of. Councilman of tie Town of Savannah
'Beach to the best of my skill and ability without favor or affention,

There being no further business'Council adjourned subject to the
call of the Mayor.

A special meeting of Councilwas held today at 4: p. m. and was
attended by Mayor Gamble who presided and. Councilmen Brooks,
Horovitz and. Logan and Town Attorney McIntyre.
The Mayor informed Council that an amendent to the general act
now in the legislature making bath house operators put out ropes
on the beach for the protection of bathers had been sent to the
representive from Chatham County.
Mr. W. C. Goodman presented a fifa stating where he had been sued
by Mr. E. A. Galletta for one septic tank to the amount of :4120.000
the Treasarer was instructed to reimburse Mr. Goodman for the septic
tank to the amount of i'i;20.00.
The following Ordinance known as the building code was introduced
by Mr. Horovitz, seconded by Mr. Brooks placed, on its passage and
adopted.

BROOKS, placed on its passage and unanimously adopted:
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND ALDERMEN of the Town of Savannah
Beach, in Council assembled, that from and after this date all
buildings permits issued for construction or alterations orj-epairs
within the limits of the daid Town shall be subject to the following
condictions and restrictions which shall constitute the building
code of the said. Town of Savannah Beach:

ei The following provisions shall constitute and be known as the
Building Code and may be cited as such and presumptively pro-
vides for all mittters concerning,affecting or relating to the
construction, equipment, alteration, repairs or removal of
buildings or any structure whatsoever erected in the Town
of Savannah -ceach.

Unless existing buildings or structures are specifically
mentioned, the provisions of this code shall apply only to
buildings or structures erected or altered.
PART 11
Section a The building Inspector, to be appointed by the Mayor, subject
to the approval of Council, shall be a competent architect,
engineer, or builder of at least five (5) years practical
experience. He shall have the power and it shall be his
duty to enforce the provisions of this Code: to approve or
disapprove within a reasonalbe time, applications, plans,
details drawings and amendments thereto; to pass upon
questions relative to the mole or manner of construction or
materials to be used in the erection or alterations or a
building; to require that such mode, manner of construction
or materials, shall conform to the true extent and meaning
of the several provisions of this Code, or of any other
ordinance of the Town of Savannah Beach govering building
within its limits. Building permits shall be issued by the
Mayor on the recommendation or approval of the building
Inspector.
Section 3 All the officers designated under this Code or any future
amendments to the same, shall, as far as may be necessary
for the performance of their respective duties, have the
right to enter any building or premises in said town at
any time.
Section 4 Any applicant for a building permit shall have the right
to appeal to Council should the Building Inspector refuse
to approve the issuance of a permit.
Section 5 No permit shall be issued for the erection, alteration, or
removal of a building until the required fee for same has
been paid in accordance with the following schedule:

Where the cost of work does not exceed 3500.00
Where the cost of work exceeds 3500.00 and is
not over $1000.00-
For building costing over $1000.00 and not
exceeding 35000.00
For each additional $1000.00

Excavate for all footings, piers, columns to a depth not
less than two feet below grade level. All foundations must
be at least 24x24 inches and not less than 12 inches thick;

the bottom of all footings to be well rammed and tamped ready
to receive the footings; all footings to be of concrete,,
the mixture to be cement, sand, and crushed stone in the
proper proportions or brick.
Every pier shall be built of concrete or approved brick
concrete pr brick piers shall be laid in Portland cement
mortar. Every exterior pier shall be securely anchored
to the beams or girders at the level of each tier. All
piers shall be 12 x 12 inches except corners and angles
which shall be 24 x 24 inches. No piers to be outer 8 feet
on centers or apart,
CHIENEYS
The walls of chimneys used for stoves, ranges, or fireplaces,
heating furnaces, or other heating applicances, whether the
fuel used be wood, coal or oil or gas, etc., shall be built
of brick, concrete, stone or hollow tile of such thickness
and construction as needed. All chimneys irrespective of
which materials the wall are built shall.be lined with terra
cotta flue lininK7 8 x 12 inches, well laid in mortar and
securely set together. All chimneys must be built from the
ground. up. Chimneys must be built on proper footers either
on brick or concrete. No chimney must be used as a bearing
for floor loads. Flue linings must run down to the flue
entrance or boiler breechings, or stovepipe entrance, and
have terra cotta sleeves extending to inside of flue linings
and made tight. No wooden headers at flue place openings 411
will be allowed.
ROOFING •
Section 8- Roofs must be covered with fireproof material recognized
by the Fire Underwriters of America.
PLU10ING
Section 9 Plumbing must be installed accoring to the plumbing ordinance
of the Town of Savannah Beach and must be inspected before
sealed.

Section 10 All wires must run in strict accordance with the electrical
code and must be inspected before sealed and must pass the
test of the Fire Underwriters.
FRAMING
Section 11 Lumber muet be good grade of yellow lumber or cy)ress.
Sizes to be used in houses, stores, etc:
First floor and seconi floor joist 2x10-16 inch centers
to be bridged every eight feet with 1x3 cross bridge.
Ceiling joist 2x6--24 inch centers, not over 14 feet spans.

vo Rafters 2x6 or 2x3, according to span--24 inches on center
collar braced wit 1x6 boards.

Corner Posts 2 pieces 2x4 spiked together, also window and door post.
111 . All angles must be braced at right angles with not less than 2x4'boards
All intermediate studding 2x4.
Each 2x4 partition shall be crossed, bl-idged at the middle of height
of each story, all to be well spiked together.
All frame work must be two inches from each side of chimney and flues.
Where fire hearth is used shall be full length of chimney breast and
not les than twenty inches from brick work.
Roofs to be covered with. a good. 718 x6 inch roofers.
Porch floors to be constructed as main building.
If buildings are storm sheathed Et an angle of 45 inches
corner braces can be omitted, if desired.
B IT FURTHER ORDAIYED, that all ordinances or parts of ordinances
in conflict with this ordinance be and the same are hereby appealed.

A special meeting of Coubil was held today at 4: p.m. and was
attended by mayor Gamble who presided and. Councilmen Logan, Brooks
Horovitz and Town Attorney McIntyre.
The Mayor called attention of Council to the splendid work done
by the convicts during the fire on the 21st and he suggested that
it be a good idea for a fund be gotten up for these men and suggested
that if such a fund be gotten up the Town donate 425.00 towards it,
kr. Logan made a motion that the mayors suggestion be adopted and
was seconded by kr, Horovitz and the motion passed.
The mayor suggested that a committee be appointed to study the water
and sewage disposal on the island.
