A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD
AUTHORIZING BRAILSFORD PUBLIC ART TO PROVIDE MOSAIC ART SERVICES
FOR A FEE IN THE AMOUNT OF $34,000 TO PREPARE AND CONSTRUCT
ARTISTIC ELEMENT DESIGNS FOR THE LYNWOOD LINEAR PARK PROJECT
WHEREAS, the Lynwood Linear Park Project incorporates specific art elements
including decorative mile markers and pavement etching, an educational rain barrel,
sculptural seating area, a mosaic table, and a specially- themed pattern of rubberized
surface play area that meets the intent and purpose of the City of Lynwood's Art in
Public Places Ordinance; and
WHEREAS, the design features proposed for the Lynwood Linear Park are
reached through community consensus and incorporate a variety or urban, landscape
components that offer both functional and artistic elements; and
WHEREAS, in order to implem'ent artistic elements such- as the sculptural
seating areas and mosaic table installations in the Park, an artist must be hired to not
only interpret the community's vision for art at the Park, but to assist the community in
contributing to the art by conducting hands -on workshops where the residents of
Lynwood can join in the artistic process and help design, provide materials, and
construct ceramic mosaics with the artist; and
WHEREAS, staff recognizes the complexities of, balancing the community's
needs with elements of art to create an attractive an unique urban environment; and
WHEREAS, Linear Park consultants. from Lot to Spot and SWA Design Group
provide proposals from three ceramic artists that rhave contributed to public art locally;
and
. WHEREAS, Brailsford Public Art is highly recommended by both consultants for
quality art product and ability to engage the community and is the most cost effective
choice of the proposed artist; and
WHEREAS, the City is desirous in supporting the use of said artist for the
creation and installation of the unique artistic elements designed for the Lynwood Linear
Park Project.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD DOES
HEREBY RESOLVE, DECLARE, DETERMINE AND ORDER AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. That the City Council of - the City of Lynwood approves an
agreement with Brailsford Public Art for a.not to exceed amount of $34,000 to provide
mosaic ceramic art design services for the Lynwood Linear Park Project in a form
approved by the City Attorney.
Section 2. The Mayor is hereby authorized to sign all documents necessary
and appropriate to carry out and implement said improvements and activities related to
said agreement on behalf of the City.
Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its
adoption.
Section 4. The City Clerk shall certify as to the adoption of this Resolution.
