AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF CARSON
AMENDING THE ZONING ORDINANCE RELATING
TO DRIVEWAY ACCESS WIDTH STANDARDS AND
AMENDING THE CARSON MUNICIPAL CODE
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARSON DOES ORDAIN AS
FOLLOWS:
Section 1 . Section 9162. 7 of Division 2, Part 6,
Chapter I, Article IX of the Carson Municipal Code is amended
to read:
"Section 9162. 7 Driveway Access and Traffic Sight Clearance
The location and design of driveway access to the public
street, and limitations on the location and height of walls,
landscaping, buildings, signs and other facilities shall be
required by the Director of Public Works pursuant to the
Highway Permit Ordinance: Chapter 1, Article VII, and the
Traffic Code: Chapter 2, Article III of the Carson Municipal
Code, where applicable, or as otherwise determined by the
Director of Public Works or by the Los Angeles County Fire
Prevention Bureau to be necessary in order to provide adequate
sight distance for vehicular and pedestrian safety.
Driveway access widths required to serve those uses identified
below shall be as follows:
A. For a single-family dwelling:
1. Automobile shelter at the front of the lot.
a. For a single car automobile shelter, the
minimum driveway width shall be 12 feet.
b. For a two car automobile shelter, the
minimum driveway width shall be 20 feet.
2. For an automobile shelter at the rear of the lot,
the minimum driveway width shall be 10 feet.
B. For four (4) or less dwellings in any combination of
single-family or multiple-family dwellings, the minimum
driveway width shall be 18 feet.
C. For five (5) or more dwellings in any combination of
single-family or multiple-family dwellings, the minimum
driveway width shall be 24 feet where only one driveway
access is provided or 20 feet, for each driveway, where
2 or more driveways are provided.
D. For commercial uses, the minimum width of a driveway
having public access shall be 24 feet. The minimum
driveway width of a service driveway shall be 20 feet
plus any additional width which might be required for
' proper turning radius or truck loading requirements.
Channelized driveway widths shall be subject to the
approval of the Director of Public Works.

E. For industrial uses, the minimum driveway width shall
be subject to the approval of the Director of Community
Development and the Director of Public Works. "

that the foregoing ordinance, being Ordinance No. 78-423, passed first reading on
January 16, 1978 , was duly and regularly adopted by the City Council of said
City at a regular meeting of said Council, duly and regularly held on the 6th day of
February 1978, and that the some was passed and adopted by the following
roll call vote:
