HomeMy Public PortalAbout20180402 - Woodville Historic District Commission - Meeting Minutes1 Woodville Historic District Commission Monday, April 2, 2018 7:00 PM Senior Center, 28 Mayhew Street, Hopkinton, MA MINUTES Members Present: Sean Davan, Chair, Paul Larter, Vice Chair, Tina Berlad, Alan Connell, Nancy Peters (7:22 PM) Members Absent: Kris Waldman Others Present: Elaine Lazarus, Director of Land Use and Town Operations 1. Application for Certificate of Appropriateness – 252 Wood Street – Hopkinton Historical Commission Ron Yankee, Historical Commission, described the bronze plaque proposed to be erected on the façade of the Woodville Rod & Gun Club building denoting it as the old Woodville School. It was noted that it would be either to the right of the door or on the side of the building facing Wood St. It was stated that the Woodville Rod & Gun Club was reviewing the materials also, and will formally decide whether to allow the sign and where it should be located. The Commission reviewed the design of the bronze plaque, and discussed location. Mr. Davan moved to approve a Certificate of Appropriateness for the plaque, and to recommend that it be located on the side of the building facing the street. The motion was seconded by Mr. Larter, and the Commission voted unanimously in favor. A notice to abutters will be sent, followed by a Certificate of Appropriateness after the 10 day comment period. 2. Minutes Mr. Davan moved to approve the Minutes of the 3/5/18 meeting. Mr. Larter seconded the motion and the vote in favor was unanimous. Dale Desmond, 221 Wood Street, stated he has been researching the history of the house, which was moved from Exchange Street in 1879. Ms. Peters arrived at this time. Mr. Desmond stated he has been doing interior demolition since the fire and the structure seems to be in good condition, but the foundation may not be. He stated he is deconstructing the house and wants to do a new look, using some of the materials. He described possible changes, referencing a “barndominium” look. Mr. Davan thanked Mr. Desmond for starting the discussion, and explained the purpose and intent of a historic district. He noted that a more in- depth discussion could be held at a future meeting if the topic is an agenda item.
