Attending: Gordon Colburn

Bud Schmidt
Kirk Braun
Richard Davis
John Wolfe
1. Status Reports:
A. NDB: The Non -Directional Beacon (NDB) approach is
now certified and published.
B. AWOS: The Automatic Weather Observing Station
(AWOS) is operational and in the certification
process.
C. ALP: The final Airport Layout Plan has been
submitted to the FAA for approval.
D. VASI: The Vertical Angle Slope Indicator (VASI)
has not been operating due to a one degree variance
which has been corrected and will return to
operating status when flight checked by the FAA.
2. Minimum Standards Revision:
A draft of the revised document was presented and
discussed briefly. Committee members will make
editorial comments and a full discussion will be
scheduled for the March Agenda.
3. Wilde Wolfe Oil Lease:
John Wolfe presented a plan for leasing an area on the
North West corner of the airport for his fuel
operations. After discussion, the Committee recommends
that the area be leased with the following conditions:
a. That sale of Jet -A fuel be prohibited;
b. That tanks be lowered into concrete containment
basins to 4'-5' below grade;
1
c. That landscaping on the Dienhard Lane and
airport sides of the facility be required to
mitigate the visual impact;
d. That aesthetically pleasing fencing be required
and all measures, e.g. the painting of tanks, be
taken to mitigate the visual impact of the
facility.
A motion by Mr. Williams, seconded by Mr. Colburn, to
approve the lease if aesthetic issues (screening and
landscaping) and height considerations can be adequately
addressed.
This relocation will benefit the Fixed Base Operators by
making fuel storage available. It will benefit the
airport with its additional operating fuels and will
benefit the City by relocating an unattractive facility
from the center of town.
It was also noted that, when Deinhard Lane is relocated,
the visual impact from the street would be minimal.
On a voice vote, the motion passed unanimously.
4. Miscellaneous Issues:
A. The AWOS interferes with the UNICOM transmissions.
Purchase of a new UNICOM radio is essential. Staff
reported that the Council has an ITD grant before
them this week to assist in paying for the budgeted
item.
B. UNICOM Procedures: Mr. Davis pointed out that
since the AWOS which gives weather and altimeter
readings, contact with UNICOM is only essential for
traffic advisory services. UNICOM procedures will
need to be revised.
C. Asphalt Cracking/Ramp Areas: Kirk Braun noted the
ramp areas will need crack sealing in the near
future.
D. Snowplows on Flight Service: The plow monitors
UNICOM but any efforts to ensure that aircraft are
communicating are appreciated.
