A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COMMISSION FOR THE
TOWN OF GULF STREAM, PALM BEACH COUNTY, FLO-
RIDA, AGREEING IN PRINCIPLE TO THE CREATION
OF A COUNTY TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY.
WHEREAS, there exists in Palm Beach County an immediate pub-
lic need for modern efficient mass transportation facilities; and
WHEREAS, this need is regional in nature and cannot practical-
ly and economically be met on a city to city basis, nor can this
need be presently met by private enterprise; and
WHEREAS, the Palm Beach Transportation Committee, whose mem-
bers represent municipal, county, state, and user interests, has
recommended that the Board of County Commissioners establish a
county -wide transportation authority to be operated under the con-
trol of the County Commission and to be funded by fares, federal
and state grants, and County matching funds; and
WHEREAS, Chapter 71 -14, Laws of Florida 1971, which took ef-
fect on May 5, 1971, authorizes Palm Beach County to provide pub-
lic transportation systems, and
WHEREAS, this Commission hereby determines that it is in the
best interests of the citizens of the Town of Gulf Stream, as well
as all citizens of Palm Beach County that the County Commission as-
sume this responsibility on a regional basis and to operate, when
feasible, public transportation systems within this municipality
and all of the County;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOVVED BY THE COMMISSION of the Town
of Gulf Stream, Florida, that:
SECTION 1. This Commission adopts and finds these matters as set
out in the foregoing recitals.
SECTION 2. This Commission approves and agrees in principle to
the creation of a County Transportation Authority with
power to provide for mass transportation facilities in both the
incorporated and unincorporated areas of Palm Beach County.
SECTION 3, This Commission further agrees in principle that the
County Commission shall create such an authority and
operate it within the boundaries of this municipality and shall
provide, when feasible, mass transportation facilities within
this municipality, with said County -wide authority being funded
by fares, County funds, State and Federal matching funds and
grants, and donations.
SECTION 4. This Commission agrees to fully cooperate with the
County to implement the formation of this County -wide
authority, and agrees to take whatever official actions are
deemed necessary to accomplish the purposes aforesaid at the
earliest time.
The foregoing resolution was offered by Town of Gulf Stream
Commissioner John G. Hart, who moved its adoption. The motion was
seconded by Commissioner George W. Walker, and upon being put to a
vote, resulted in the following:
PASSED and ADOPTED on this 4th day of June, 1971 by unanimous
vote of the entire Town of Gulf Stream Commission.
