The matter of toll collection again came up and after quite a bit
of discussion, the matter was referred to the Police Committee to
endeavor to work out a solution of this problem.
Another disasterous fire at Savannah Beach, on Thursday ,gay 12th,
destroyed the Atlantic Club and the Sheehan property, fortunately
a west wind was blowing and through the efforts of the citizens of
Savannah Beach and with the assistance of the officers and men of
Fort Screven and also Chief Monroe and several engines of the
Savannah Fire Department, the fire was confined to these two
properties.
There being no further business Council adjourned, Subject to the
call of the Mayor.

A special meeting of Council was held today at 4; p.m. and was
attended by Mayor Gamble who presided and Councilmen Demere, Logan,
Blumenthal, Cann, Righton and Mr. S. F. Englerth.

� apparatus, he showed several pictures of one of his equipment known
as the err Fgter, and also quoted prices - -Mr. Englerth was then ex-
cused- -After discussing the matter, it was decided that the Town
would not be interest at this time.

police department should protrol this neighborhood and have an
ordinance to prohibit parking - -Mr. Logan said that it would be hard:

on the idea of public safety - -Mr. Logan suggested stopping vehicles
and letting pedestrians go through - -Mr. Cann said that property

should exceed to the wishes of the property owners as much as possible -
Dr. Righton said that the people liked to get just as close to the
beach as possible - -Mr. Demere said that they have posts at 13th street- -
Mr. Logan suggested putting down some posts on 12th street and trying
them out - -Dr. Righton objected, an suggested that signs be placed
on the streets prohibiting after eleven p.m. at night - -Mr. Logan said
that the wishes of the property owners should be considered and that
he does not want to have the police department critized - -Mr. Cann
so many things are done in the manner of the law nowdays, that a

cause the tenants are annoyed by autoists flashing their lights in the
cottages at all hours of the night, said that the hotel had not com-
plained of this - -Dr. Righton made a motion that a sign be printed
and placed at 12th street and that it be ordained that parking be pro-
hibited from 11 p.m., to 7 p.m., Mr. Demere seconded this motion and
passed , Mr. Logan voting negative.

Mr. Louis Crum petitioned for a reduction in the assessments on
that he recently acquired two lots from Mr. E. B. Izlar on 11
street, petition was refused.
Petitions were read from J. J. McDonough for a reduction on the
assesments placed on his property on 8th street, this petition
refused.

Petitions were read from D. J. Sheehan and J. D. Hirsch requesting thaStet

by fire, Dr. Righton made a motion that the taxes on these improvementsF -o'

Mr. Logan said that he felt that new buildings going up in the case of Nkw
where they had been started or finished, after the fiscal year started,1)04°
that they should be taxed for the prorates amount for the balance of thetls

Dr. Righton brought up the matter relative to the toll situation and
said that the public should be instructed as to the method by which GEtu.attm

decide what bills were to be paid, the Mayor suggested having the clerk
prepare a list of all unpaid bills and submit these to the finance
committee, who will give instructions how they are to be paid.
Demere wanted to know if the street lights could not be turned off

b� Savannah Electric Company would not permit this at the present time.

The matter of water and fire protection came up and Mr. Blumenthal

the beginning of operations, he said that a water system on Savannah
Beach could be run at a profit - -Mr. Blumenthal suggested that private
owners could form a company - -Mr. Cann suggested the formation of a
stock company and sell shares at $50.00 per share more or less letting
them be sold on the preferred payment plan'and have some bank handle
it- -the Mayor suggested that the plant cost $35000.00, that $20000.00
be paid in, and. rnortgage for the balance be given--Mr. Cann suggested
that what should be done, is that the full amount required be raised
and then that an extra amount should also be raised to take care of
any emergencies, that the rates be made cheap to get rid of any com-
petitors.
