HomeMy Public PortalAbout69-018RESOLUTION NO. 69-18 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARSON EXPRESSING SUPPORT OF THE LOS ANGELES UNIFIED AND JUNIOR COLLEGE DISTRICTS BOND AND TAX LIMIT PROPOSITIONS TO BE VOTED ON APRIL 1, 1969 WHEREAS, Los Angeles City Schools face critical school con- struction needs totaling more than $250 million; and WHEREAS, available funds from a 1966 school bond issue will be exhausted this summer; and WHEREAS, Los Angeles school enrollment continues to increase every year; and WHEREAS, State financial support to the school districts has not increased in proportion to local needs; and WHEREAS, the present tax ceiling for the schools has remained at its maximum for the past six years despite inflationary costs and increased enrollment; and WHEREAS, lack of funds will seriously affect the quality of education in Los Angeles and result in the curtailment of many excellent and worthwhile programs; and WHEREAS, our children must not be penalized because of other high taxes; and WHEREAS, the Districts have already imposed the severest economies to cope with the situation: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Carson does hereby endorse and support the $289 million unified bond issue and adjustments in the present General Purpose Tax ceiling on the April I ballot so that the unified school district and junior college district may continue to function at their present excellent levels. AND, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that all citizens of the City of Carson join in approval of these three measures at the next municipal election. PASSED, APPROVED and ADOPTED this 3rd day of March , 1969.
