A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CARSON REQUESTING ASSISTANCE IN ABATING
THE SITUATION RESULTING FROM THE OIL LEAKING
FROM A CERTAIN OFF -SHORE OIL WELL
WHEREAS, there has occurred a disastrous oil leak in a
certain off -shore oil well; and
WHEREAS, there has leaked into California coastal waters
large quantities of oil, causing pollution of an area in excess of 800
square miles; and
WHEREAS, this has resulted in much damage to public and
private property; and
WHEREAS, such resources are irreplaceable:
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that the City Council of the
City of Carson does resolve as follows:
That the Honorable Richard M. Nixon, President of the
United States, and the Honorable Ronald Reagan, Governor of the State
of California, are respectfully requested:
A. To do everything possible to contain or disperse the
oil at sea and there destroy its harmful potential; and
B. To place on standby, men and materials to assist in any
restoration operations resulting from such oil coming ashore; and
C. To make funds available to provide:
1. For preventive measures designed to stop or
diminish the impact of such oil coming ashore; and
2. For such restoration operations as may become
necessary.
D. That the State and Federal government are hereby requested
to conduct an in-depth study of the desirability of off -shore oil wells and
to conduct a scientific study to develop methods to efficiently cope with
such disasters; and
E. That the State government is hereby requested to adopt
minimum standards for off -shore drilling and to continue the off -shore
drilling prohibition until such standards are enacted.

California, do hereby certify that the whole number of members of the
City Council of said City is five; that the foregoing resolution, being
Resolution No. 69-21 , was duly and regularly adopted by the City Council
of said City at a regular meeting of said Council, duly and regularly held
on the 17th day of March, 1969, and that the same was so passed and adopted
by the following vote:
AYES: COUNCILMEN: Clark, Junk, Smith,
Yamamoto and Marbut.
NOES: COUNCILMEN: None.
ABSENT: COUNCILMEN: None.
