HomeMy Public PortalAboutRES 70/11RESOLUTION NO. 11 -70, A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COMMISSION OF THE TOWN OF GULF STREAM, PALM BEACH COUNTY, FLORIDA, RE- COGNIZING THE PUBLIC NEED FOR FLOOD INSURANCE AND AUTHORIZING COMPLIANCE WITH REQUIREMENTS OF THE FLOOD INSURANCE PROGRAM AS SET FORTH AND CON- TAINED IN FEDERAL REGISTER 35 F. R. 4200 -09 DATED MARCH 6, 1970. WHEREAS, the Town of Gulf Stream, Florida is a legally constituted body, the Charter of the Town being Chapter 22306, Special Acts of Florida, 1943, as amended, and WHEREAS, the Town of Gulf Stream, Florida is authorized by Chapter 69 -33, 69 -139 and 69 -234 of the Florida Statutes to issue Flood Plain regulations and effect flood control measures, and WHEREAS, the Town of Gulf Stream, Florida recognizes the immediate need for flood insurance for protection of the public, and hereby de- sires participation in the Federal Insurance Program, and WHEREAS, the Town Commission of the Town of Gulf Stream recognizes that certain properties within the boundaries are subject to flooding and flood damage, and WHEREAS, through the Charter of the Town, being Chapter 22306, of the Special Acts of Florida, 1943, as amended, and the Code of Ordi- nances of the Town of Gulf Stream, Florida, the Town maintains con- siderable restrictions and codes designed to minimize flood hazards, and WHEREAS, the Town of Gulf Stream, Florida will implement further measures relating to land use in flood plain areas: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Town Commission of the Town of Gulf Stream, Florida: 1. That it will recognize and evaluate flood hazards in all ac- tions relating to land use in the flood plain areas of the properties under jurisdiction of the Town of Gulf Stream, Florida. 2. That it will enact by December 31, 1971, and maintain in force adequate land use and control measures with effective enforce- ment provisions consistent with the National Flood Insurance Program criteria. 3. That it will cooperate with neighboring jurisdictions with respect to adjoining drainage areas and flood plains in order to pre- vent aggravation of the flooding problem, and will work with appro- priate state and federal agencies and bodies in every way possible in complying with the Flood Insurance Program, 4. That the Town Commission hereby appoints the Town Manager of the Town of Gulf Stream, Florida, as the official with the responsi- bility, authority and means to implement the commitments made herein.
