The regular meeting of Council was held to -day a.t'4 : -.p.m. and was attended by Mayor Garnble,who presided, and Councilmen Demere, Sharpley,Blumer : thal and Righton,, Town Attorney McTntyr and a committee from the Trades and Labor Assemble consisting of Messrs. Thiot,4llen and Touissant. Mr. Thiott spoke for the committee and informed Council that the 1 }4-,.,s Trades and Labor Assembly were planing to give a dinner to the unemployed of Savannah and also make it a big celebration of Labor "‘ on Labor Day - they intended bringing visitors from adjoining d� sections and to do this it would require the assistance of everyone / b,, they also intended to fifnish the Labor Day celebration at Savannah Beach - and they carne to ask that the Town donate something to theme 1 cause - the gentlemen were then excused - Dr. Righton male a motion that 25% of the collections,on Labor Day,of the parki?g area be donated t�: the them - this was seconded by Mr Demere and t e motionTra es �. passed.- the Clerk was instructed to remit the amount to the Secre - abor' tary of the Trades and Labor and Assembly. 01 A petition was Dresented,that was signed by several hundred prop - 19�. 4,eSt erty owners and residents of the island, requesting that the C.R.R.' change its winter schedule relating to the bus service - it was 16k/ Q '. requested that instead of the bus leaving Savannah at2 ":40 p.m. ®cN, ; that if leave Savannah either 6:00 or 6:30 p.m. - Dr. Righton W;.ri made a motion that the Mayor write a letter to C.R.R. presentingsCtit e. the petition and recommending the su:`geted change — this was second ed by Mr. Demere and the mt i on passed. The Clerk called atention to some of the operators of several businesses not having paid their liscenses for the year - Dr. uve„�- 1 } Righton said that they should be male to pay at once and made x5es it a motion which was seconded by Mr. Demere and passed the Mayor said that he would write letters to them, informing them of the actin Council. The Mayor informed Council of the delinquent taxes that were due lei;%6tAt the Town; - efforts were being made to cd ect them but the Town -FAxes u, should be very careful about handling it - Dr. Righton made a motion that a notice be sent the delinquent taxpayers with a copy of the tax fi fa informing them that if the taxes were not paid that action would be taken -.this was seconded by Mr. Demere and passed Dr. Righton wanted to know who Yr. Broughton is working under - W0C`V he was informed that IiMr. Broughton was under Ihdge West. wke „ Dr. Rig'�iten said, that the Town was sorely in need of a public ; o dock to take care of the numerous boats that are at the island and vw also for thoses visiting . boats that frequently come here.
