A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARSON URGING THE CREATION OF A PUBLIC AUTHORITY
TO FINANCE THE CONSTRUCTION OF A NEW SHERIFF'S
SUBSTATION IN THE CIVIC CENTER AREA
WHEREAS, the City of Carson is presently served by the Firestone Sheriff's
Substation at 7901 South Compton Avenue, a distance of eight (8) miles from the City of Carson;
and
WHEREAS, this substation by its location of eight (8) miles from the City of
Carson makes the delivery of law enforcement service difficult and expensive; and
WHEREAS, it is impracticable to attempt to remodel or reconstruct the existing
facility to provide a better level of service to Carson; and
WHEREAS, the County of Los Angeles has acquired property in the Carson Civic
Center Area as a site for a proposed new sheriff's substation; and
WHEREAS, in order to obtain a new substation as soon as possible, the public
interest and convenience requires the creation of a public authority on the part of the City of
Carson and the County of Los Angeles as a means of financing the construction of said substation:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. That the City Council of the City of Carson hereby finds and determines
that there is an immediate and pressing need for a new sheriff's substation facility to meet the
present law enforcement demands of the community.
Section 2. That in order to secure the construction of a new sheriff's substation
at the earliest possiMe time, public interest and necessity requires the creation of a public auth-
ority on the part of the City of Carson and the County of Los Angeles in order to finance the
construction of a new sheriff's substation in the Carson Civic Center Area.
Section 3. That the Board of Supervisors of the County of Los Angeles is hereby
requested to join Witt e City of Carson in the formation of a public authority for the purpose of
constructing said substation.
Section 4. That the City Clerk is hereby directed to forward a certified copy of
this Resolution to tNe-Board of Supervisors of the County of Los Angeles.

hereby certify that the whole number of members of the City Council of said City is five; that
the foregoing resolution, being Resolution No. 71-059, was duly and regularly adopted by the
City Council of said City at a regular meeting of said Council, duly and regularly held on the
19th day of April, 1971, and that the same was so passed and adopted by the following vote:
AYES: COUNCILMEN: Junk, Leahy, Marbut,
Spence and Smith.
NOES: COUNCILMEN: None.
