Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Ga.
August 24th 1932.
A meeting of the special water committee was held to -day at 4:00
p.m. and was attended by Mayor Gamble, who,presided, and Col.
J.G.Butler,Samuel Blumenthal and Fred Wessels.
The Mayor informed the committee that he had just returned from
�dr Atlanta where he had gone. in the intesest of the waterworks system
r dte.'tio, he ascertained that just as soon as the town gets an_1 adequate fire

ing on insurance, he said that he had asked for a letter from the

oNN. ttehortting the proposed loan through that there will be no charge made
fpvw,Ak.by them for t.ny service that they may have rendered - he ascer-
)ay.ti taiged that the R.F.C. would soon be ready to advance money and that
the Town should get the required data in just as quickly as possible
and that the pkoposition should be admitted to the until
everything reuired is furnished them - Col Butler suggested that
the T.W.W. be approached to see if they will sell - Mr. Blumenthal
said that he had spoken to A.P.S.jr., about selling and that'he
said that the matter would have to be put up to the stockholders
Mr. Wessells asked what was the Towns position if the T.W.W. re-
fused to sell - the Mayor said that;, he would appoint a committee
to confer with the representatives of the T and that he would
also talk with Mr. A.P.Solomon,sr.

A meeting was held to -day at 4:00 p.m of the special atar works
committee and was attended by Mayor Gamble, who preitadd, and
Councilmen Logan,; Blumenthal, sharpley and Cann also Mr Culver,
and members of the citizens committee consististing of Cola J.G.
Butler, J.L.Burdreau, S.N.Harris and Col. G.A.Gordon.
The meeting was called to order.
Tice v,s.Discussion was strted by Mr. Harris who said that he thought that

K; r than getting one from out of town - the Mayor asked if there was an
'oea �- engineer here who could handle the work, he said that he knew of none,
6e eel Col. Butler said that the proper partied to present the plan for the
loan to the R.F.C. was the Mayor and Councilmen and that the Georgia
members of the House and Senate should make the appointments - the
Mayor said that the requirements are that the project must be self-
liquiddating the property owners do not have to worry about any
increase in taxes - Col.Butler then asked what was be one -7ith the
T.W.W. - the Mayor that they return their plant for taxes tQr^ about
7000.00 - Col Gordon said that he understoodmthat the J.B.McC. Co.,
would do everything possible to get the loan throughbthe R.Y.C.

Mr. Cann said that. Col. Butler suggested that the Mayor-and Councilmen
go to Washington, his opinion is that ` :Tashington will not be satisfied
with one conference, it would be mach better to have someone there
to push it - the Mayor read a letter from the J.B.McC.Co., advising
that there would be no charge made for services rendered if project
did not go through - Mr Cann said that we should act :promptly, the
T.LW. should be approached at once to ascertain their views about
selling out - Col. Gordon said that so rn_bch ieteil was involved
that the matter should be handled ve y carefully, it should be
pushed Col. Butler said that as he understood it the J.B.McC.Co.
agreed to help the Town in presenting the matter to the R.F.C. he
suggested that contract with them be referred to the Town attorney
for his opinion - Mr. Harris said that tea matter should be sub-
mitted to the tax - payers - Mr. Can- vaed tat it was intended to get
the matter in shape so that it could be ctbm tted to the property

ter. Budreau- said that if the Town offered to bey the T.W.W. and

Mr. Harris made a motion the following motion bemc,de, recommending
to Council that the Mayor be empowered to size --"tract with the
J.B.McC.Co., in line with their verbal and written proposals, or
as may be amended, after due consideration ani approval that the
contract is made and dependent on the .satisfactory elimination
of the presently owned waterworks system cr in the event of the
failure to eliminate the present waterworks eystem to procure the
necessary funds for the construction of a n.ev.r plant Mr. Logan
seconded and the motion passed.
