HomeMy Public PortalAbout72-067RESOLUTION NO. 72-067 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARSON EXPRESSING OPPOSITION TO STATE ASSEMBLY BILL 461 WHEREAS, the passage of Assembly Bill 461 would automatically assign forty percent of the County's gas tax funds, or $19.5 million per year at the current rate of gas tax receipts, to the City of Los Angeles; and WHEREAS, the passage of this bill would result in extreme hardship on the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors in their continuing effort to cooperatively develop, with the cities of Los Angeles County, the County -wide Master Plan of Highways; and WHEREAS, the long-standing cooperative highway construction programs with the other 76 cities in the County would have to be eliminated; and WHEREAS, the parochial approach on the part of the City of Los Angeles does not recognize that it is as dependent as the other cities of the County on a County -wide road network; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Carson recognizes the fact that the Board of Supervisors in 1971 awarded 148 highway contracts having a contract value of $20,232,000, and 175 road projects were completed at a total contract cost of $17,412,000; and WHEREAS, the City Council further recognizes that the construction of the County -wide system of highways affected under this program included work within 445 cities of the County as well as in unincorporated territory. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARSON DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: Section I. That the City of Carson is opposed to the passage of AB 461. Section 2. That the City Clerk is instructed to forward copies of this resolution to the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, the County Supervisors Association, and to all members of the Legislature representing the citizens of Carson.
