HomeMy Public PortalAbout2011-04-19 Disaster Drill Exercise Press Release Plainfield – The Village of Plainfield, in conj unction with the Plainfield Fire and Ambulance Districts, Edward Hospital, Diageo, Plainfield Pa rk District and Plainfield School District #202 shall be conducting a full-scale disaster exerci se at several locations around Plainfield on Saturday, May 7, 2011. The exercise is scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m. and conclude at approximately 12 noon. The disaster scenario involves a tornado striking Plainfield and a subsequent Hazardous Materials incident taxing local resources. The locations where the drill will occur in clude the Edward Plainfield Campus, 127 th Street and Van Dyke Road; Diageo, 24440 W. 143 rd Street; the Plainfield Law Enforcement Center; Walker’s Grove Elementary School and adjace nt park area at Route 30 and 135 th Street; and the Walker’s Grove Tot Lot located on Blakely Driv e in Walker’s Grove subdivision. Residents and motorists are advised to expect inte rmittent road closures around these exercise sites as well as a number of emergency response vehicles and role players simulating a response to the disaster. This exercise is being conducted so Village and emergency response officials can test the effectiveness of the Village’s Emergency Operat ions Plan, Emergency Operations Center, and also response capabilities to an incident with simu ltaneous multiple locations. Officials will also be sending out a simulated sheltering order to a select group of residential areas to test the response to the hazardous materials incident.
