Harvest 2K/5K Run-Walk The Harvest 2K/5K Run-Walk will be o ccurring on Sunday morning, September 26, 2010 and will require some temporary road closures around the Village Green and Plainfield Central High School. Par king will be restricted in and around this area as well. The 2K race for kids under 12 years of age, starting at 8:15 a.m., will begin and end near the Village Green. The kids will run a course that will incorporate many of the streets around the Village Green, therefore necessitating short temporary road closures. The 5K Run-Walk will begin at the Village Green at 9:00 a.m. This race will go down several streets near the Village Gr een; through Plainfield Central High School; south on River Road to River Cour t and then return north on River Road to James Street where it will end on Ottawa Street. This race will also necessitate several temporary road closures, howeve r all roadways should be opened by 10:15 a.m. If anyone has any questions regarding temporary road closures or parking restrictions for the Harvest 2K/5K Run-Wa lk please contact Plainfield Police Commander John Konopek at his office 815-439-4803 Plainfield Community Homecoming Parade The 2010 Plainfield Community Homecoming Parade is slated for Saturday, October 2, 2010, and will cause major traffic tie-ups and delays in and around Plainfield, and also Plainfield Central High School. Unless partic ipating in or viewing the parade, motorists are asked to avoid the downtown area and parts of Routes 30 and 126 on Saturday morning between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 12 noon due to heavier than normal traffic movement and road closures. Starting at 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 2; Police will begin closing Ottawa Street (west of Dupage River) between Van Dyke Road and the Ira Jones Middle School. Ira Jones Middle School, and Village Center Drive near the Village Hall will also become controlled access for parade entries At 8:15 a.m. police will close the following roadways: o U.S. Route 126 (Lockport & Main Str eets) at Van Dyke Road, to Route 59 o Lockport Street from James Street to Route 59 o James Street from Lockport Street to Fort Beggs Drive o Ottawa Street (east of Dupage River) from James Street to Illinois Street o Fox River Street from Lockport Street to Commercial Street o Desplaines Street from Lockport Street to Commercial Street o Illinois Street from Lockport Street to Commercial Street o Commercial Street from Illinois Street to James Street o Fort Beggs Drive from James Street to Pratt Lane All downtown roads north of Lockport Street (Oak, Arnold, Penn, Desplaines, Ilinois) will be open to local traffic only by accessing traffic checkpoints. o All roads south of Lockport Street alo ng the parade route east of Route 59 will be completely closed; this does include the area directly around Plainfield Central High School. No traffic lanes on Route 59 will be closed , however motorists should be advised that traffic back-up and delays are expected. All roads are expected to re-open between 11:30 a.m. and 12 noon. Parade staging and line-ups have been designated at the following locations: Band Drop-off (Buses) o The gravel area south of Lockport Street between the CN Railroad Tracks and the Dupage River. Plainfield Junior Cats (PJC) & Plainfield Prowlers Football Clubs o Staging will be in the field directly east of Ira Jones Middle School. Participants should enter the school by accessing Wallin Drive (YMCA) off Route 126 (Lockport Street). Participants may be either dropped off on the east side of Ira Jones and walk to their designated position in the Parade line-up, or parents may park in the grass area south of Ira Jones and walk their child(ren) to their assigned spot in the line-up. Homecoming Court, Escort Vehicles, Designated VIP’s ; Staging in Dreyer Medical Center parking lot, next to Plainfield Village Hall. All other parade entries; Enter Wallin Drive (YMCA) from Lockport Street (Route 126) and proceed to Ottawa Street at the intersection with Ira Jones Middle School. Participants may be either dropped off and proceed to their assigned location or the vehicle can be parked in the grass area south of Ira Jones and the participant can be walked to their designated location. The Parade will begin at Van Dyke Road and Lockport Street at 9:00 a.m. and will continue on its designated route until ending at James Street and Fort Beggs Drive. At the conclusion of the parade band/bus pick-up and float parking will be in the south side Fort Beggs High School parking lot. Any walkers fr om the parade may be picked up either at the Community Park on Renwick Road or on the north side of the high school. PJC/Prowler participants will be directed to Renwick Community Park for pick-up Porta-potties will be provided at/or near Otta wa Street at Ingersoll Drive, the Plainfield Village Hall, Ira Jones Middle School, Lockport Street near Desplaines Street, Illinois and Ottawa Streets, and at Plainfield Central High School near the tennis courts/baseball fields.
