Summer Construction Projects Summer is the season of construc-tion! Here are a few of the projects that will be occurring around town. 2012 MFT Program – As part of this year’s Motor Fuel Tax (MFT) program, resurfacing work will be performed in the following subdivisions: Champion Creek, Heritage Meadows, Walker’s Grove, and Spangler Farm and on 135th Street. This work will be complete before the school year begins. Traffic Signal Project – The temporary traffic signals at Lockport Street and Wallin Drive will be replaced this summer. This project also includes the installation of pedestrian signal upgrades at Lockport and Van Dyke Road and a fiber optic interconnection between both signals for better traffic flow. A future sidewalk along Lockport Street is also planned to connect the two intersections. Lockport Street Pedestrian Bridge – The Village received a grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity to construct a pedestrian bridge on the south side of the existing Lockport Street vehicular bridge. This project will be complete by December of this year. 135th Street Bike Path – The Village also secured a grant through the ICC to design and construct a bike path connection on 135th Street, east of the former Fox Valley Press Building to the Park District’s existing bike path. The Village will be working with Canadian National and the ICC to make this much needed connection. National Register District The Village is currently working with a preservation consultant on nominating the Downtown Historic District for the National Register. The Illinois Historic Preservation Agency has provided the Village with a grant to cover the majority of the costs for the nomination. Federal Register approval of the Village’s district would add Plainfield to the list of 14 communities in the State of Illinois that have downtown districts including St. Charles, Geneva, Lake Forest, and Evanston. Lock It or Lose It The Plainfield Police Department would like to remind residents to be vigilant in keeping the doors of their vehicles secure and valuables out of sight. The majority of the burglaries to motor vehicles are crimes of opportunity, meaning a victim left property easily available for the thief. By locking the doors of your vehicle and taking valuable items with you or hiding them in a locked trunk, you can dramatic ally reduce the risk of being a crime victim. In an effort to remind residents to lock their doors, the Police Department has made special “Lock It or Lose It” Vehicle Stickers available. These free stickers are placed in your car window and serve as a constant reminder to help prevent theft. Stickers are available at the Police Department, 14300 S. Coil Plus Drive; Public Works Department, 14400 S. Coil Plus Drive; and Village Hall, 24401 W. Lockport Street. 2012 Election The General Election is November 6, 2012.
