HomeMy Public PortalAbout74-092RESOLUTION NO 74-092 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARSON IN SUPPORT OF THE LOS ANGELES UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT BOND.AND REVENUE MEASURES (PROPOSITIONS RAND S) TO BE VOTED ON JUNE 41 1974 WHEREAS, the City of Carson recognizes the vital role our public schools play in our communityand nation and that public education is ourchief means of equalizing opportunities in our diverse and changing society; WHEREAS, we firmly believe our democracy depends upon a citizenry of well-educated men and women equipped with the skills and knowledge that enable them to Lead productive lives in our°increasingly technological society; WHEREAS, our times and our community require a school system that is able to respond to the growing educational needs and challenges confronting it; WHEREAS, the Los Angeles Unified School District is committed to progress and is moving forward to meet the needs of all those it serves; WHEREAS, the Los Angeles Unified School District must be assured of adequate financial support if it is to continue its progress as an effective urban school system; WHEREAS, Proposition R would provide $255 million in bond funds to modemize school facilities and make other urgently needed capital improvements at schools throughout the district at no additional cost to taxpayers; WHEREAS, Proposition S would allow the school district to increase its revenue limit by $38.68vper pupil next year, thereby eliminating a budget deficit caused by rapidly rising inflation and declining enrollment; WHEREAS, passage of these two ballot measures would provide our schools with the funds needed to give our youngsters opportunities fora quality education; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Carson does hereby support Propositions Rand Sand urge all citizens to vote YES on these two critical measures on June 4.
