November 25th,1932.
A special meeting of Council was held to-day at 4:00 p.m. and
was attended by Mayor Gamb]e,io presided,and councilmen Logan,
Blumenthal,Demere and Sharpley.
The Mayor called the meeting to ander.
The Mayor informed Council that the TWW had submitted another
contract under which they would furnish water for domestic and
fire protection use, the contract was read and after discussion
it was decided that, as several items had not been provided for
by the TWW, the contract be referred b ck to them for revision.
The Mayor informed Council that he been informed by Mr. Marion
Lucas, postmaster, that a mohement was .on foot to discontinue the
CMTC and ROTC summer training camps at Fort Screven and transfer
them to Jacksonville,Fla., he felt that this a preliminary step
to abandon Fort Screven, he would take the matter up With Mayor
Hoynes, Mr. Porter Pierpont and Mr Ii;.Ueorge-Butler to see what
could be done about it.
The Mayor informed Council that he had receivedaaletter from Col.
Marshal of Fort Screven relative to the proposed discontinuance of
the Bus service to the Island and the Col. felt that it would be
drawbacLs to the post and suggested that the CRR inaugurate a new
p lgn:,A:o of rates and schedules, Dr. Righton said that the rates
are too high and that the discontinuance of the bus service should
be opposed by the Town authorities, the Mayor said that the CRR
shouldpostpone action until a later date he felt that the rail-
road should give it a fair tr *itl.
There being no further business Council adjourned subject to the
call of the Mayor.
