HomeMy Public PortalAbout75-057RESOLUTION NO. 75-057 A RESOLUTION OFTHE CITY COUNCIL OFTHE CITY OF CARSON SUPPORTING THE BILINGUAL COURTS ACT AS INTRODUCED BY THE HONORABLE SENATOR JOHN V. TUNNEY IN THE 94TH CONGRESS OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA WHEREAS, non-English speaking Americans have traditionally encountered significant communication problems in the Courts of the United States of America; and WHEREAS, the Los Angeles County Court system has recognized the severity of this problem by making available to non-English speaking Americans the services of com- petent interpreters; and WHEREAS, the honorable Senator John V. Tunney has introduced in the 94th Congress, the Bilingual Courts Act which will guarantee that all non-English speaking Ameri- cans will have made available to them the services of competent interpreters for criminal and civil cases in all Federal courts. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: Section 1 . That the City Council of the City of Carson does hereby support and urge the passage of the Bilingual Courts Act. Section 2. That the City Clerk of the City of Carson is hereby directed to transmit copies of this resolution to the League of California Cities, Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, Senators Quentin Burdick, John V. Tunney, Alan Cranston and Congressmen Charles H. Wilson and Don Edwards. PASSED, APPROVED and ADOPTED th 5th day of May, 1975. ATTEST: � t TY CLERK STATE OF CALIFORNIA ) COUNTY OF LOS ANGELES ) ss.
