Chairman Bortel called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. Roll call was taken; Commissioners Kachel, Bright, Olsen, Derrick, Hendricksen, Buchan an, Rapp, and Chairman Bortel were present. Also present were Michael S. Garrigan, Village Plan ner and Merrilee Trotz, Recording Secretary. APPROVAL OF AGENDA Commissioner Bright made a motion to approve the Ag enda. Motion seconded by Commissioner Olsen. Voice vote: All in favor. Op posed – no response. Motion carried 8-0. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Commissioner Derrick amended the minutes to add “fo r Certificate of Appropriateness” to the second paragraph under Discussion. Commissioner Ka chel made a motion to accept the February 9, 2012 minutes as amended. Commissioner H endricksen seconded the motion. Voice vote: All in favor. Opposed – no response. Motio n carried 8-0. CHAIR’S COMMENTS: COMMISSIONERS COMMENTS: PUBLIC COMMENT: (Items not on the Agenda) No one approached the microphone. STAFF REPORT Mr. Garrigan indicated a demolition permit for the Lutheran High School has been received. Commissioner Derrick stated through her research th at it was highly unlikely this building was ever a radio station. Chairman Bortel asked if a c orner stone was found during the demolition could it be submitted to the Historical Society Mus eum. Mr. Garrigan stated no new landmark applications ha ve been received; 14927 S Rte 59 was added to the watch list and a pre-application meeti ng was held for demolition of 14927 S Rte Historic Preservation Commission Minutes May 24, 2012 Page 2 of 2 59; also there is a proposal for redevelopment of 1 5307 S Rte 59 which will go before the Plan Commission on June 5 th . NEW BUSINESS: None OLD BUSINESS: None COMMITTEE REPORTS : None DISCUSSION: Mr. Garrigan indicated the Village now owns Baci’s and is obtaining estimates for mold remediation and costs to repair damage to the roof. The Village may issue a RFP for concepts for the reuse of the building. Mr. Garrigan indicated the owner of 14927 S Rte 59 hopes to proceed with demolition of this property. Chairman Bortel indicated thru his rese arch that the house was most likely built in 1855 rather than 1845 as noted in the survey. Samples of the new Historic Signs were presented. Everyone attending the meeting thought the signs were very nice. Mr. Garrigan explained the current development tren ds and presented a memo outlining a number of planning and preservation challenges rela ting to the Route 59 corridor. Discussion was held regarding the “Business Transition” along this corridor. Commissioner Derrick presented some pictures of other transition distric ts. ADJOURN: Commissioner Derrick made a motion to adjourn. Com missioner Hendricksen seconded the motion. Voice vote: All in favor. 0 - opposed . Motion carried.
