SECTION 2 BE IT FURTHER ORDAINS by the authority aforesaid that the excution of said contract on behalf of Savannah Beach,Tybee Island, shall be by causing the same to be signed in the name of Savannah Beach,Tybee island, by its Mayor and attested by its Clerk of Council under the seal of said municipality:_. SECTION 3 B4 IT FURTHER ORDAINED by the authority aforesaid that a certified of this ordinance be taken from the minutes of this meeting hinder the hand and seal of the Clerk of Council and attached to said Contract. .SECTION 4. BE IT FURTHER ORD INED BY THE AUTHORITY AFORESAID that all ordinances and parts of ordinan es in conflict herewith, be and the same are hereby repealed. `! A special meeting of Council was held to -day and was attended by Mayor Gamble, who presided, and Councilmen Sharpley,Blumenthal, Cann,Righton and Logan and Town Attorney McIntyre. The meeting was called to order and the Minutes of several previous meetings were read and adopted. The Mayor informediCouncil that the County Commissioners had agreed to feed and maintain the live stock at the convict camp and suggested that as several of the mules were not being used due to old age or intiries that they be disposed of - Dr. Righton made a motion that the Mayor be empowered to dispose of the mules as he saw fit, this was seconded by Mr. Sharpley and the motion passed unanmously. The Mayor. informed Council tt he had the matter of the discon- tinuance of the bus service/with Mr. F.J.Robinson of the C.R.R. and that Mr. Robinson had informed him that the C.R.R. had not as yet requested authority from the Public Service Commission to cut off the service. The Mayor informed Council that he had been adviced by Mr. E.George Butler that on a recent trip to. Washington he had ascertained that the post at Fort SBreven would be retained. The Mayor informed Council.he had conferred with r. Boss of the S.E.CoI,relative to discontinuing some of the street lights and that Mr. Foss was very nice about it and agreed to it. 1 1 In the interests of economy the Mayor said that it would be necessary to let Mr. Bryan go temporarily, Dr. Righton said that it was unfortunate that Mr. Broughton could not take care of some of the work that is done by Mr. Bryan, Mr. Logan said that he would see about having Mr. Bryan put on as guard by the County. The Mayor a read statement showing the condition of the finances of the Town, he called attention to the fact that when he took office there were notes outstanding of $ 31749.00 and at the present time the notes outstanding amount to 19725.00 showing a reduction in seven years of $ 12024.00 and at the same time new jetties, new boadwalks, new streets, new parking spaces and a street lighting system were installed - the Mayor suggested that as it would be necessary to borrow money from some of the banks that the toll collections be put up as security for the new loan or transfer the tax executions to the bank - the Mayor then offered his resignation and said that due to the fact that he was accepting the office of Mayor of Savnnah was the only reason for resigning from Savannah Beach, he regretted very much to leave as it had been a pleasure always to be associated with the members or Council, there had been harmony at all times and never any sign of friction and he thoroughlu enjoyed work- ing with the body, and he asked that the resignation be accepted, Dr. Righton said that it was with profound regret that the Major was leaving as he had always shown such an intense interest in the aff.rs of theTTown and that one did not have to look far to see his accomplishments - the Mayor then retired, Chairman of Council Cann then took the chair and made a motion that a resolution of regret be tendered the Mayor and a. copy spread on the minutes, this was seconded by Mr. Sharpley and the motion passed unanamously; 61 62 1 1 Mr. Cann then informed Council that it would be necessary to elect a successor, as Chairman of Council some think that he should,accppt it but this is impossible he hoped to prevail upon Jar. Logan to take it but that Mr. Loagn said that at the present time that he cannot, he therefore suggested that the matter be postponed for awhile - Dr. Righton said that action in appointing a new Mayor should be too fast - Mr. Cann said that the matter should not be left open too long, he thought that Mr. Logan would serve and id sorry that he does not - Dr. Righton said that Mr. Cann and Mr. Logan were too modest about it - Mr. Blumenthal said that a better man than Mr. Logan could not be gotten and that he would nominate him for the position - Mr. Cann called attention to the regular meeting of Council next week and said that the position should be filled as soon as possible also that Council be prepared to fill the vacancy on the Aldermanic board should a member be elated to the Mayorlty - Dr. Righton suggested that the citizens of Tybee be looked over with a view of2locating a new alderman - Mr. Cann said that if it was possible the selection of the new Mayor should be unanamous, as Tybee's affairs had always been conducted as one big family everyone worked with the other fellow # Mr. 3harpley suggested postponing action until the next meeting - this was agreed to.
