A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARSON REQUESTING THE COUNTY OF LOS ANGELES TO
EXPAND THE LOS ANGELES CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL HOT-
LINE PROGRAM INTO THE COMPTON JUDICIAL DISTRICT
WHEREAS, there is a need for improved counseling services in the cities of
Compton, Lynwood, Carson and Paramount, and that portion of the County of Los Angeles
located within the Compton Judicial District which is not incorporated in any of the
cities named above, and
WHEREAS, the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles has been operating a
telephone counseling service (Hot -Line) since 1968 and has developed expertise in dealing
with emotionally disturbed persons, and has developed and trained a staff to make
appropriate referrals to other resources, and
WHEREAS, the Hot -Line counseling services will offer immediate and anonymous
assistance as a crisis intervention program for adolescents in the following manner:
Short term counseling,
2. Evaluating the needs of the adolescents,
3. Providing consultation and follow-up as indicated, and
WHEREAS, it has been shown that a substantial percentage of those calling the
Hot -Line for service reside within this general area and a greater percentage would avail
themselves of these services if they were made aware of its existence, and
WHEREAS, it has been shown that the Hot -Line can have a positive effect
upon those who otherwise might commit some anti -social activity,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
Carson hereby requests support from the County of Los Angeles to expand the counseling
services of the Hot -Line Program into the Compton Judicial District.
