A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD,
CALIFORNIA, AUTHORIZING THE OFFICIAL NAMING OF LYNWOOD LINEAR
WALKING PARK AS RICARDO LARA LINEAR PARK
WHEREAS, the Linear Walking Park located along Fernwood Avenue, Lynwood,
California, has no official name; and
WHEREAS, in the past the City of Lynwood has named buildings and other
facilities after individuals who have contributed'to the quality of life for residents such as
Bateman Hall, Ham Park, Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, Cesar Chavez Lane; and
WHEREAS, Senator Ricardo Lara currently represents the Southeast Los
Angeles County cities of the 33�d Senate District and has advocated for the City in
various capacities; and
WHEREAS, Senator Lara assisted the City in obtaining $4.9 million in grant
funding for the Linear Walking Park as an Assembly member in- 2012; and
WHEREAS, Senator Lara continues to contribute to the community through his
Black History Month Gospel Brunch, Women of Distinction Awards, Excellence in
Business Awards, Young Senators Program, and various donations to Lynwood events;
and
WHEREAS, the naming will honor Senator Lara for his assistance in obtaining
$4.9 million in grant funding for the Linear Walking Park and years of dynamic
community service as a Senator and former Assemblyman.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD DOES
HEREBY RESOLVE, DECLARE, DETERMINE AND ORDER AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. That the Linear Walking Park located along Fernwood Avenue,
Lynwood, California, shall be known as "Ricardo Lara Linear Park."
Section 2. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its
adoption.
Section 3. The City Clerk shall certify as to the adoption of this City Council
Resolution.
