A 'RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD,
CALIFORNIA, AUTHORIZING THE OFFICIAL NAMING OF THE LYNWOOD YOUTH
CENTER AS THE ROBERT HENNING YOUTH CENTER
WHEREAS, the Lynwood Youth Center is located at 11409 Birch Street,
Lynwood, California, and has no official name; and
WHEREAS, in the past the City of Lynwood has named buildings and other
facilities after individuals who have contributed to the quality of life for residents such as
Bateman Hall, Ham Park, and Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Robert Henning became the first African - American elected to
Lynwood City Council in 1983. His contributions to the community include the Lynwood
Trolley System, Lynwood City Flag, Lynwood Youth Commission, Lynwood Women's
Commission, Lynwood Anti - Graffiti Program, Lynwood Shopping Center, and various
street and sidewalk repairs; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Henning is also co- founder of numerous organizations including
the Lions International- Lynwood Chapter, Hub Cities Joint Powers Authority, Black
American Political Association of California- Lynwood Chapter, NAACP- Lynwood
Branch, Lynwood Local Development Company, Carlin -Palm Neighborhood
Association, and the 31st Congressional Democratic Club; and
WHEREAS, the naming will honor Mr. Henning for his years of positive and
dynamic community service as a former resident, Councilmember, and community
advocate.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD DOES
HEREBY RESOLVE, DECLARE, DETERMINE AND ORDER AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. That the Lynwood Youth Center located at 11409 Birch Street,
Lynwood, California, shall be known as the "Robert Henning Youth Center."
Section 2. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its
adoption.
Section 3. The City Clerk shall certify as to the adoption of this City Council
Resolution.
