HomeMy Public PortalAbout19330612SCMeeting98 Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Ga., June 12th,1933. A special meeting of Council was ,eld to-day and was attended by Mayor lewis, who presided, and. Councilmen Cann,Sharpley,logan, Blumenthal and Righton and Town Attorney McIntyre, also Mr. E.J. Haar. Petition of Tybee Amusement Co.,thru Mr. Haar, for reduction of license for operating a bath-housepthe present fee is .50% per room, also petition for reduction in license on trade vending machines from prevent fee of $ 20.00 per machine. Mr. Haar offered to donate to the Town any Thursday or Friday night the use of Tybrisa Pavilion with the ochestra for the purpose of putting on a dance the proceeds of which will be used by the Town as it sees fit. Mr. Haar was excused. Petition of A.F.Solms to be permitted to put up a sign on the property located between Butler Avenue,Inlet Avenue and 16th street and. Izlar Avenue. Petition refuted. Councilman Sharpley moved that the license for operating a bath-house be reduced to 25% per room,with a minimum chargeoof $25.00, seconded by Councilman Logan, passed. Councilman Sharpley moved that the license for operating a merchandise machine be reduced to $ 10.00 per machine, seconded by Councilman Logan, passed. Discussion was had relative to the issuance of tags to the property owners, Town Attorney McIntyre was of the opinion that it was a matter of poliwy with the town. Councilman Righton moved that Whatever regulations were in effect relative to granting free parking privileges, that same be rtscinded and that from now on all vehicles using the parking area be required to pay,seconded by Councilman Blumenthal, passed. Councilman Logan moved that the town accept the offer of the Tybee Amusement Company donatming Tybriaa Pavilion one night with the ochestra so that the town could put on a dance, seconded by Councilman Cann,passed. Petitions; Savannah Gas Co., want free parking for guests of their picnic to be held Wednesday June 14th, refused. Residents of Lovell Station want telephone service installed for protection of bathers. refused. The committee appointed to call of Mr.Foss of the Savh 2lectric and Power Co., relative to the old account owed by the town, re- ported that the S.E.P.Co.,was insisting that the account be paid, the matter was referred to the FinanceCommittee to work out and reilltt back. Councilman Righton called attention to the unsanitary condition of the septiv tank at the cottage of Max Foster. Councilman Sharpley suggested that the Mayor appoint a committee to take up with the County Commissioners the matter of their taking over the roadbed formerly used by the CRR and converting it into 99 100 an automobile highway to the island. Councilman Cann was appointed to handle the matter wit the County. Council was informed that Col Marshall had been ordered away from Fort Screven effective June 29th, Councilman Cann suggested that a suitable remembrance be presented him and moved that Councilman Righton be appointed to make the selection,Councilman Logan seconded and the motion. Petition was presented by Dr. R.V.Harris signed by various property owners in the vicinity of Dixon Station requestiing the cutting of weeds and clearing away rubbish,ec in an effort to reduce the mosquito nuisance, Col. Marshal of Fort Screven offered the use of the C.C.Corps to do this work and it was decided to accept his kind offer, the Clerk was instructed to write Col. Marshall and thank him. Councilman Logan called attention • to the need of a small truck for use at the island, the Clerk of was instructed to get bids on a small dump truck. Councilman Sharpley informed Council that 11-. had been approached by a number of property owners de Lovell Station in regard to the erosion existing there, they wanting to know what the town intended doing in the matter, that he hzd drawn up a bill of mderials needed to put in protection works, Councilman Cann suggested that the town make an effort to borrow the money from the R.F.C. also that former Mayor Gamble was familiar with the requirements of the R.F.C. Councilman Cann was requestedbto confer with Mayor Gamble relative to this. Councilman Cann moved that the Mayor appoitt a committee on beau- tification composed of 10 ladieswho are residents or property owner' to provide ways and means of improvaing the appearance of and making the island more attractive,this seconded by Councilman Righton and the motion passed. The matter of the renting of the schoolteachers cottage during the summer months was discussed and on motion of Councilman Logan that the Mayor be empowered to handle the matter, seconded by Councilman Sharpley the motion passed. Councilman Logan and. Clerk BucKley were appointed a committee to investigate and purchase a new supply of ticktets for the toll gate.
