HomeMy Public PortalAbout2019.04.17 Proclamation - Marie StrodeCity of McCall Proclamation WHEREAS: Anna Lenora Marie Blackwell, affectionately known as Marie, was born in her Grandmother's house, on what is now known as Lenora Street, on April 17, 1919 in McCall, Idaho to Herman and Rose Blackwell; and WHEREAS: Marie had a brother Clem, named for his Grandfather; Little Clem passed away at the age of 7; and WHEREAS: Marie attended many schools between McCall, Idaho and Ontario Oregon, where she graduated in 1937; and WHEREAS: The Blackwell family operated several cattle and sheep ranches in Long Valley, and were among the first to open a hotel, meat market and saloon in McCall. WHEREAS: She met and married her husband, George E. Strode, of Roseberry in the year 1939 in Lewiston, Idaho, and were married for 67 years, had 2 children, Georganne (in McCall 1940) and Kenny (in Council 1946) S grandchildren Mark and Marci Spalding, Kolly, Katie, and Kasey Strode, and 2 great-grandchildren Nick and Haley Spalding; and WHEREAS: Marie and George welcomed, into their family, their son-in-law, Will Spalding in 1978 and their daughter-in-law, Jackie Rife in 1978; and WHEREAS: After returning to McCall to live, George was the foreman at the local sawmill for 39 years while Marie was an active member of the PTA, McCall Senior Citizens Center, Eastern Star, and the Finnish Ladies Aid Society; and WHEREAS: Marie spent her summers in her "Little Piece of Heaven" in the same home she shared with George in McCall for 73 years; and WHEREAS: During their retirement, Marie and George spent their winters in Arizona together until George's passing in 2006, for the next 14 years, she continued her winters in Arizona with Georgeanne and Will Spalding; and Whereas: Marie enjoyed the company of her friends and family and delighted watching family members participate in the annual McCall Golf Tournament; and WHEREAS: Marie enjoyed huckleberry picking and making wonderful treats to share with her guests; and WHEREAS: Marie moved to Edgewood Senior Housing in Eagle, Idaho in October 2018, where she continues to blossom and make new friendships sure to make wonderful memories in the years to come! TO CELEBRATE the 100`h birthday of Anna Lenora "Marie" Blackwell -Strode NOW, THEREFORE, 1, Jackie J. Aymon, Mayor of the City of McCall, with the consent of the McCall City Council, Recognize Marie Strode's 100th Birthday with a Celebratory Proclamation from the City of McCall! IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand at McCall City Hall in the City of McCall, Valley County, on this ninth day of May, the year two -thousand nineteen.
