HomeMy Public PortalAbout84-155RESOLUTION NO. 84-155 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARSON, CALIFORNIA, REQUESTING THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE COUNTY OF LOS ANGELES TO CONSOLIDATE AN ADVISORY ELECTION OF THE CITY OF CARSON TO BE HELD ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 1984 WITH STATEWIDE GENERAL ELECTION TO BE HELD ON SAID DATE PURSUANT TO SECTION 23300 OF THE ELECTIONS CODE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA WHEREAS, on November 6, 1984, a statewide general election will be held in the County of Los Angeles; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Carson, by adoption of Resolution No. 84-155 on August 7, 1984, called an advisory election in said City to be held on November 6, 1984 for the purpose of submitting to the qualified electors of said City at said election the question hereinafter set out for the purpose of allowing the voters to indicate approval or disapproval of such question by advisory vote; WHEREAS, considerable savings in costs would result if the City of Carson advisory election were consolidated with the County of Los Angeles statewide general election; and WHEREAS, it is desirable that said City of Carson advisory election be consolidated with the statewide general election of the County of Los Angeles to be held on the same date and that within said City of Carson the precincts, polling places and election officers be the same, that the Registrar of Voters of the County of Los Angeles procure and furnish any and all official ballots, notices, printed matter and all supplies, equipment and paraphernalia that may be necessary in order to properly and lawfully conduct said election, that the Registrar of Voters of the County of Los Angeles canvass the returns of the City of Carson advisory election and that said County of Los Angeles statewide general election and City of Carson advisory election be held in all respects as if there were only one election; NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Carson does hereby resolve, determine, and order as follows: Section 1. Pursuant to the requirements of Section 23300 through 23314 of the Elections Code of the State of California, the Board of Supervisors of the County of Los Angeles is hereby requested to consent and agree to the consolidation of the said advisory election of the City of Carson with the statewide general election to be held in the County of Los Angeles on November 6, 1984 for the purpose of submitting to the electors of the City of Carson a measure to appear on the ballot as follows: PROPOSITION A ADVISORY VOTE ONLY YES Should the bills for residential garbage and refuse collection be placed on the County tax bills if it would result in savings to the homeowners on the presentNO contract rate? Such elections shall be held in said City of Carson in all respects as if there were only one election, and only one form of ballot shall be used thereat. The precincts, polling places and officers of election for this advisory election in the City of Carson shall be the same as those provided for said County of Los Angeles statewide general election. Resolution No. 84-155/Page 2 of 2 Section 2. The Registrar of Voters of the County of Los Angeles is hereby authorized to canvass the returns of the City of Carson advisory election and said election which is hereby requested to be consolidated with the statewide general election in the County of Los Angeles and said election shall be held in all respects as if there were only one election and only one form of ballot shall be used. The Registrar of Voters of the County of Los Angeles shall certify the results of the canvass of the returns of said advisory election to the City Council of the City of Carson and shall thereafter declare the results thereof. Section 3. The Board of Supervisors of the County of Los Angeles is hereby requested to issue instructions to the Registrar of Voters of said County to take any and all steps for the holding of said consolidated election. Section 4. The City of Carson recognizes that additional costs will be incurred by the County of Los Angeles by reason of this consolidation and agrees to reimburse said County of Los Angeles for any and all such costs. Section 5. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution and fi— le a certified copy with the Board of Supervisors of the County of Los Angeles and with the Registrar of Voters of Los Angeles County.
