A special meeting of Council was held to -day at 4:00 p.m. and was attended by Mayor Lewis, who presided, and Councilmen Cann, Blumenthal,SharDley and Demere. It was moved and seconded that Mutt the following resolution in connection with the application for repairs to municipal buildings. be adopted. Motion passed. RESOLUTION. BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Councilmen of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island,. Georgia, in Council assembled, that the following sums of money shall be expended by this municipality for repairs and improvements to municipal build- ings, in connection with the Civil Works Administration, to -wit; Architects services $ 621.00 Superintenience by municipality under Superintendent of Public Works, W.J.Bryan, regularly employed by municipality. BE I'" FURTHER RESOLVED that the above named sums are hereby appropriated for the above mentioned purpose from the Treasury of said municipality and that the Mayor of said muni- cipality is hereby authorized, upon presentation of proper vouchers. to sign and execute the same. A regular meeting of Council was held to -day at 4:00 p.m. and was attended by Mayor J.C.Lewis, who presided, and Councilmen Logan,Sharpley,Blumenthal and Demers, aley Messrs. F.A.Davis, R Joe Daniels, and A.P.Solomon,jr. Mr Davis protested against the new assessment placed on the property of Mrs. G.D.Lindsay at Dixon 4ation, since May 1, 1933, he contended that the property was already over assessed,that it was a very old building that required repairing, and he did not feel that the owner should be compelled to pay an increased assessment for the repairing of their property. Mr Davis was excused. Mr. Solomon reported that the waterworks system has been completed according to the plan and map as presented to the Town, and was in duly use. Councilman Sharpley stated that the system was acceptable by the Town and that it was up to the Town to vitt comply with the requirements of the S.B.U.Assn. , to get a suf- ficient number of points to put it in a third class rating. Mr. Solomons was excused. 119 120 Mr. Daniels appearing for Mrs. Mary D.McFadcien, petitioned that the Town leaver an opening at the intersection of Butler.Aiienue and Atlantic Avenue, on Butler Avenue to permit the motoring public to enter Atlantic Avenue. He also requested that the Town work over this street for him before the opening of the summer season. Mr. Daniels was informed .t' at both of hit requests, would be complied with. Mr. 1Saniels was excused. The-:. Imiiutes of the meetings of February '2nd and 8th Were read and -approved. Council considered the petition of Mrs. G.D.Lindsay and waa,of theropinionsthat the new assessment placed on her property should be cancelled. The Tybee Waterworks submitted three bills to the Town for payment they contending that threb parts of the system damaged were caused py negligence of the Town, one neat the Schoolteachers cottage, one near 6L.h street and Butler Avenue and another on Butler Avenue near Sixteenth street., after some discussion Council decided that the Town was fidtbl #able for the damages. The Clerk was instructed to so inform the Tybee Waterworks. The matter of finishing the Butler Avenue project in the event that the CWA stops work on it was discussed and it was decided that if this occurred to request the State Highway Department to finish it. Mouncilman Logan was appointed a committee to call on Judge Rourke and'hre que st that his be done. The Receiver of The CRR offered the right of way of the railroad from Lazaretto Creek to Tilton Avenue for the sum of 680.63, it was moved and seconded that Council approves and accepts proposal of H.D.Pollard, ReaAveai of the Central of Georgia Ry., Co. :motion passed. The matter was- referredtto the Town Attorney to draw up the necessary papers. A provision was made that kkx as the buildings occupied by the bridge tender at Lazaretto Creek bridge had been sold to him that he be permitted to occupy the land as long as he tends to the CRR bridge and it is owned by the CRR. A letter was read from Mr. W.F.Brown the County Engineer re- questing that repairs be made to some of thebuildings at the Convict Camp. Mr. Bryan was instructed to investigate and re- port on what was required. The Ma bryinformed Council that Mr. W.H.Artley had called bis attention to a report that whiskey was being sold to CWA workers on the island and also that the Town was purchasing its supply of gasoline from Mr. J.A.Bergman. The Mayor informed Mr. Artley that both reports were unfounded. Mr. R.H.Seay requested permission purcha n a licenser for the remainder of the year for the operation /merchandise vending machines.
