A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF CARSON IN SUPPORT
OF AN AMENDMENT TO THE CALIFORNIA
CONSTITUTION TO PROVIDE THAT NO
POLITICAL PARTY OR PARTY CENTRAL
COMMITTEE MAY ENDORSE, SUPPORT OR
OPPOSE A CANDIDATE FOR NONPARTISAN
OFFICE
WHEREAS, existing provisions of the California
Constitution provide that judicial, school, county and city
offices shall be nonpartisan.
WHEREAS, existing case law authorizes a
political party or party central committee to endorse,
support or oppose a candidate for nonpartisan office, and
WHEREAS, the State Legislature has passed and
placed on the election ballot for June 1986, a measure proposing
that Section 6, Article 11 be amended as follows:
Section 6. (a) All judicial, school, county and
city offices shall be nonpartisan.
(b) No political party or party central
committee may endorse, support
or oppose a candidate for nonpartisan
office.
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved as follows:
Section 1. That the City Council of the City of
Carson earnestly supports the proposed amendment to the
California Constitution, Section 6, Article II as set forth herein-
above.
Section 2. That the City Clerk shall certify to the
adoption of this resoTution and submit copies to the Governor,
State Legislature, League of California Cities, and Los Angeles
County Board of Supervisors.
PASSED, APPROVED and ADOPTED this 7TH
day of APRIL 1 1986.

I, Helen S. Rawagoe, City Clerk of the City of Carson, California, do
hereby certify that the whole number of members of the City Council of said City is
five; that the foregoing resolution, being Resolution No. 86-035 was duly and
regularly adopted by the City Council of said City at a regular meeting of said
Council, duly and regularly held on the 7th day of April, 1986, and that the same
was so passed and adopted by the following vote:
