Mr. Centola:
I am writing in support of the update and addition of a turf field, new track and tennis
courts at the Victory Field. The Victory Field turf multi -purpose field has been a great
asset to our programs from the youth to varsity levels and an additional turf field would
continue to grow and improve all of our programs.
As spring season coaches we must collaborate with one another to construct a practice
and game schedule that will accommodate all spring teams. Seven teams in all, of varsity
and jv boy's and girl's lacrosse, freshmen, jv and varsity baseball coordinate to share a
space from 2:30 — 8:30 for practice and game time. This is a limited amount of time to
allow student athletes enough time and flexibility in their personal schedules to balance
the demands of both academics and athletics. Many times during the year athletes are
asked to attend contests or practices late into the evening which allows them limited time
to complete their academic work and have enough rest for the following day. Student -
athletes would be offered more time and space to work individually on their athletic skills
as well as allowing more convenient and additional time to work on their academic skills.
An additional turf field would offer more practice and game space that would alleviate
this time constraint for our student -athletes, enhance their overall student -athlete
experience, moreover, open the door to the opportunity to outside groups who wish to
rent the field space and bring additional funds to the town of Watertown.
I whole-heartedly support an additional turf field and updates to the Victory Field
complex for the benefits of the Watertown community, education and athletic programs.
Sincerely,
