A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CARSON SUPPORTING THE WEST BASIN
WATER RECLAMATION PROJECT
WHEREAS, the Southern California region is experiencing
a serious water shortage and without increased supplies this
shortage will only worsen; and
WHEREAS, 80% of the water provided by the West Basin
Municipal Water District comes from outside the Southern California
area - Northern California, the Colorado River and the Owens Valley
- all dwindling and unreliable sources; and
WHEREAS, a local supply of water is needed to provide
drought protection to the 827, 000 residents in 18 cities and
unincorporated areas which comprise the West Basin; and
WHEREAS, the West Basin Water Reclamation Project will
purify 70, 000 acre-feet of water per year which can be used to
water school playing fields, cemeteries, public parks, highway
medians, golf courses and for industrial purposes; and
WHEREAS, recycled water is the least expensive additional
water option for our region; and
WHEREAS, schools and cities will save money on the water
they purchase from the Reclamation Project for their irrigation
needs, therefore saving taxpayer dollars; and
WHEREAS, 6.5 billion gallons of drinking water per year
is injected into the West Basin Barrier to protect against salt
water intrusion and recycled water can be substituted for this
important demand; and
WHEREAS, the Reclamation Project will provide enough
water to meet 30% of the West Basin's total water demand; and
WHEREAS, by recycling and purifying wastewater, the water
reclamation project will reduce the amount of sewage effluent
dumped into the Santa Monica Bay by 15%.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CARSON SUPPORTS the West Basin Water Reclamation Project.
PASSED, APPROVED, and ADOPTED this 19th day of November,
1991.

resolution, being Resolution No. 91-116 was duty and regularly adopted by the City Council
of said City at a regular meeting of said Council, duly and regularly held on the 19th day
