A special meeting of Council was held to -day and was attended '
by Mayor Bright, Who presided, and Councilmen Cann,Logan,
Blumenthal,Sharpley and Righton, also Town Attorney McIntire,
Mr. H.P.Anderson and W.J.Richter.
The :iniutes of the meetings of June 4th,July 6th, 1934, were
read._ and adopted.
The oath of office of Councilman for the term for which he
was duly elected was administered to Councilman R.M.Demere;

I, R.M.Demere, do solemnly swear that I will
faithfully and honestly perform the duties of Councilman
of the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island., Georgia, to
the best of my skill and ability without favor or affection,
SO HELP ME GOD.

Councilman Demere tendered his resignation as Councilman
to beco :e effective immediately and on motion madeas conded
thd.t-samelbe accepted with regrets, the motion passed.
irr. William S. Lovell was nominated for Councilman to fill
the unexpired term of Councilxman Demere, resigned, and there
being no other nominations, it was moved and seconded and
passed that he be elcted. The following oath was administered
to Mr. Lovell;

I, William S.Lovell, do solemnly swear that 1 will
faithfully and honestly perform the duties of Councilman
of the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Georgia, to
the best Bf my skill and ability without favor or affection,
SO HELP NE GOD.
Mr. Anderson petitioned that his assessments had not been
reduced sufficiently low enough to satisfy him, he requested
a reduction of '`010,000.00. After some discussion he was
excused. After going into the matter it was moved and sec-
onded and passed that the assessments on lot 32, ward 4,
be reduced to 12,500.00 and that the reduction be made
on the improvements.
Yr. W.J.Richter presented a petitio# signed by-some of the
business places in the Town requesting that a tax of .10 be
placed on every bottle of soft drink and malt drink sold
on the island. 50% of the the tax to go to the general fund
and 50% to be„used::to advertise the island. lio,a.actlionrwas
A petition was presented by TJ.H.McLaws that he be allowed
the discount on the property of Annette Spooner for the
years 1929 to 1934, it was moved and secohd.ed. and passed
that the discount be allowed for 1929 - 30 -31 -32 and that the
gross amount of taxes be paid for the years 1933 and 1934.
J.P.O'Brien petitioned that afine of $25.00 imposed upon him
in Police Court be refunded. Petitioned was refused.
A communication was received from L.P.Maggioni & Co., request-
ing a larger reduction on note of the Town held by.them. Re-
ferred to the Finance Committee.
A communication from the Savannah Electric and Power Co..,
requested the Town make new arrangements relative the old
account so that the time limit for p =,ying same would not
expire. Referred to the Finance Committee.
The matter of taxes of the Globe Dredging Co., due on their
property in Venetian Terrace was discussed, the G.D.Co.,pro-
testing against paying taxes on certthin lots on a lot basis,
they contending that same should be on an acreage assessment,
The opinion of Council was that any lots in Venetian Terrace
that carried an assessment on a lot basis prior to 1932, When
the 10 year agreement was made with the Globe Dredging Co.,
should still be charged on a lot basis, and taxes collected
accordingly.
The Health and Drainage Committee reportedtthe as building
used as a tool house by the Town on 15th street and First avenue
was occupied, and there was no running water br toilet arrange-
ments, that either these be installed or the place vacated .
It was moved and seconded that the report of the H & D Committee
be adopted. The motion passed.
It was moved and seconded and passed that the Town pay the
Tww for furnishing water to the building occupied by Mr.
W.J.Bryan for the years 1933 and 1934.
The Health and Drainage Committee reported that the conditions
existing the building known as the fishing camp on the property
of Mr. J.P. Houlihan were unsanitary and should be corrected at
once. It was decided to handle the matter with Mr. Houlihan
with the view to same having same corrected.
There being further business Council adjourned subject to the
call of the Mayor.
