PRESENTATION OF FINAL DESIGN CONCEPTS FOR ROSEMEAD BOULEVARD PUBLIC ART INSTALLATIONS The Commission received presentations on, and approved final design concepts for artist Daniel Stern's two bronze sculptures, and Robin Brailsford's 24 art pavers with text features. The Commission, along with City staff, discussed placement of artist Carole Ouejian's tile murals to allow for better pedestrian visibility. The Commission requested Council approval to repurpose four planned Rosemead Boulevard directories to accommodate eye-level installations of Ouejian's detailed tile mosaic murals, as well as to adapt them into pedestrian kiosks that conceptualize Rosemead Boulevard's artworks and art walk narrative. 3. REPORTS FROM CITY STAFF Public Art Consultant Elwood proposed Commissioner training and a Long Beach public art tour for either October 20, 27 or November 3, 2013. She also announced the next Commission meeting for Wednesday, November 6, 2013 in the Council Chambers, 5938 Kauffman Avenue. 4. COMMUNICATIONS Public Art Consultant Elwood announced that artists Stern and Brailsford will present their final design concepts to the Council on October 15, 2013, 7:30 p.m., at First United Methodist, 5957 Golden West Avenue. Public Art Commission Secretary Pitcher announced mandatory ethics training for all City commissioners on October 28, 2013. 5. COMMISSION ITEMS SEPARATE FROM THE AGENDA A. CHAIR LARSEN-None B. COMMISSIONER HEPLER -inqu ired about the status of the fountain proposed for Temple City Park, and requested that it be included on the next meeting agenda. Assistant to the City Manager Haworth clarified that there is currently no funding or Council priority identified for the fountain, but that it could be City Council October 15, 2013 Page 3 of 3 considered for incorporation into the Public Art Annual Plan, scheduled for Commission discussion on November 6, 2013. Commissioner Hepler asked when camellia etchings (designed by the former Public Arts Advisory Group) will be completed on the Performing Arts Pavilion dance floor. Assistant to the City Manager Haworth said that he would follow-up with Public Safety and Services Manager Robert Sahagun, who is overseeing the project. C. COMMISSIONER KEELIN -asked about the rotating mural project (developed by the former Public Arts Advisory Group) at the Temple City Library. Assistant to the City Manager Haworth responded that there is currently no funding or Council prior ity identified for the mural project. He said the project could be considered for incorporation into the upcoming Public Art Annual Plan which among other things, schedules public art initiatives in line with availab le resources and Commission and Council priorities. ADJOURNMENT The Public Arts Commission meeting was adjourned at 9:04p.m. CONCLUSION: The City Council is requested to receive and file this report. FISCAL IMPACT: This item does not have an impact on the Fiscal Year (FY) 2013-14 City Budget.
