HomeMy Public PortalAbout94-105 RESOLUTION NO. 94105 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARSON URGING SUPPORT FOR TRW SYSTEMS INTEGRATION GROUP'S PROCUREMENT OF LOS ANGELES COUNTY'S CONTRACT TO AUTOMATE THE ADULT AND CHILD WELFARE SYSTEM WHEREAS, TRW Systems Integration Group has been a leader in systems engineering, applying its expertise to solve some of the nation's most challenging technical programs and earning an international reputation for providing superior products and services to customers in the Information Systems, Space, Defense and Automotive Markets; and, WHEREAS, centering its Space Defense and Computer Information System activities in California, Los Angeles County, the City of Carson and other South Bay cities, TRW currently employs 11,000 people statewide, 9,000 in Los Angeles County, and 800 in the City of Carson and represents an annual payroll of $563 million statewide, $545 million in the County of Los Angeles and nearly $30 million in state and local taxes; and, WHEREAS, TRW has been an exemplary corporate citizen with significant financial and volunteer support, with special attention to local education and programs for high risk youth, that include a one million dollar grant to the California Academy of Math and Science High School located at California State University Dominguez Hills and an accompanying mentoring program to encourage minorities to pursue careers in math and science; and, WHEREAS, TRW Systems Integration Group provides products, Integration systems, and professional services to the Federal, State and Local Government markets, and, with its wealth of experience from advanced technology defense projects, can successfully tackle the most complex information systems applications which yield economy and productivity; and, WHEREAS, TRW Systems Integration Group in converting from defense systems work to other research and development programs has submitted a bid to procure a multi-year, multi-million dollar contract to computerize the Los Angeles County Eligibility Automated Determination, Evaluation, and Reporting System (LEADER); and, WHEREAS, local procurement of the LEADER contract is a key to strengthening our economy by keeping business and jobs in California and providing a stronger basis for economic recovery and progress; and, WHEREAS, TRW's failure to get the contract would mean loss of jobs and revenue to the South Bay and City of Carson; and, WHEREAS, economic hardships translates into individuals losing their homes, health insurance, savings and hopes for the future. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Carson, California, urges the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors to award the contract for the Los Angeles County Eligibility Automated Determination, Evaluation, and Reporting System, to TRW Systems Integration Group which will have a direct positive impact on the local economy through retention of direct and indirect jobs and TRW's exemplary community outreach activities. Resolution No. 94-105/Page 2 of 2 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Carson urges other South Bay Cities to adopt similar resolutions to support TRW Systems Integration Group, a viable organization whose strong presence for the past three decades has provided revenue, jobs and a continuous commitment to educational and social programs in the State and the South Bay. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Honorable Yvonne Brathwaite Burke, Supervisor, Second District County of Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors and the Members of the Board, and to each of the South Bay Cities.
