SUBJECT: PUBLIC ARTS COMMISSION ACTIONS -MEETING OF NOVEMBER 6, 2013 RECOMMENDATION: The City Council (Council) is requested to receive and file actions of the November 6, 2013 Public Arts Commission (Commission) meeting. BACKGROUNP: On November 6, 2013, the Commission received a presentation on Los Angeles County public c;Irt programs to complement the training received during a November 3, 2013 public art tour of downtown Long Beach. The Commission also commenced its inaugural Public Art in Places Annual Plan (Annual Plan) process with a discussion of preliminary recommendations, which will be further considered on December 3, 2013. ANALYSIS: The following is a summary of actions taken at the November 6, 2013 Commission meeting: 1 . NEW BUSINESS A. PRESENTATION OF LOS ANGELES COUNTY PUBLIC ART PROGRAMS The Commission received a presentation by Erin Harkey, Civic Project Manager for the Los Angeles County Arts Council, on a variety of public art projects and cultural programs as a prerequisite discussion for the City's inaugural Annual Plan. B. DISCUSSION OF PRELIMINARY ANNUAL PLAN RECOMMENDATIONS The Commission identified community involvement, outreach and funding as high priority Annual Plan objectives. The Commission will further refine recommendations in December and solidify a community outreach strategy to promote the City's Arts in Public Places Program. 3. REPORTS FROM CITY STAFF Assistant to the City Manager Haworth and Public Arts Consultant Elwood updated the Commission on the development of Rosemead Boulevard artworks. Public Arts Consultant Elwood announced the attendance of artists Robin Brailsford and Carole Choucair Oueijan at the December 4, 2013 Commission meeting. 4. COMMUNICATIONS None. 5.
