A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARSON
AUTHORIZING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A SISTER CITY AFFILIATION WITH
WANJU-GUN COUNTY, KOREA
WHEREAS, Wanju-gun County, Korea, extended a formal invitation for a
delegation from the Carson Sister Cities Association to visit with the intent to establish a sister
city relationship with the city of Carson;
WHEREAS, a delegation from Carson undertook an exploratory visit to
Wanju-gun County with the express purpose of meeting with governmental officials to discuss
mutual expectations, goals, and other matters for establishing a sister city affiliation;
WHEREAS, on October 30, 1996, CSCA took action to officially pursue a
sister cities affiliation with Wanju-gun County, Korea, and requested a letter of invitation be
sent as a commitment to this process in accordance with affiliation guidelines as set forth by
Sister Cities International;
WHEREAS, on January 13 and January 28, 1997, respectively, Wanju-gun
County Assembly and the Central Government took action to accept the invitation from Carson
to establish a sister city affiliation;
WHEREAS, once both governments have sanctioned the sister city
relationship, an official joint signing ceremony of the Protocol of Agreement will take place in
the city of Carson to be witnessed by city officials, representatives of the Carson Sister Cities
Association and Sister Cities International, and community and business leaders;
WHEREAS, copies of all official letters, resolutions and the Protocol of
Agreement will be sent to Sister Cities International, the U.S. Embassy in Korea and to the
Korean Embassy in the U.S., thereby completing the affiliation process and authorizing SCI to
recognize the affiliation and to add the sister city affiliation to the current Directory of Sister
Cities, Counties and States.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARSON
DOES HEREBY RESOLVE, on the behalf of its citizens, to establish a sister city affiliation
with Wanju-gun County, Korea, and to enter into a relationship for the purpose of creating
mutual international understanding between our respective communities and nations.

number of members of the City Council is five; that the foregoing resolution, being Resolution No. 97-019
was duly and regularly adopted by said Council at a regular meeting duly and regularly held on the 19th day of
August, 1997, and that the same was passed and adopted by the following vote:
