The new field structure and synthetic field have provided fantastic space that has enabled as many as 60+ students to participate safely at a time. Lined field space provides opportunity for physical educators to manage class activities efficiently. The synthetic field has also enabled activities to take place when grass field space would otherwise be wet, full of geese and unusable. The recreation department has collaborated well to assure permit for physical education classes during the school hours and also provides time within reason for outside school time activities. In October, 2013, WPS received a physical education grant which was in part possible due to the collaborative agreement with the recreation department to utilize the field space for physical education, after school activities and add a fitness component beginning next year. This will involve fitness stations that will be placed around the track area to include sit-up, pull-up, push-up, and a multi -use fitness station piece. I look forward to continuing our on -going collaboration and the additional renovation phase that will improve the victory field space, track and tennis court areas. Wellness is important to the Watertown Public Schools and community of which the recreation department plays a pivotal role. The recent and future plan to improve the facilities will make a positive impact on increasing activity for youth and adults. Thank you for the time taken to work with the WPS and opportunity to use the recreation department facilities. Sincerely, in Donna M. Ruseckas Director of Wellness and Extended Services DR:eh
