I am hereby arbitrarily cancelling that meeting. Presumably this is good news for most of you. The attached letter from the Weather service concludes our discussion with them for the time being. We believe this will work satisfactorily. If I get leases or other items, I will ask for a special meeting as necessary. U.S. DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE Weather Service Forecast Office 3905 Vista Avenue Boise, Idaho 83705-0126 (208) 334-9860 June 23, 1992 WSFO:JAJ 1302-01-06-04 Mr. Arthur (Bud) J. Schmidt, City Administrator/Airport Manager City of McCall Office of the Clerk, Box 1065 McCall, ID 83638 Dear Bud: This letter is to follow-up our telephone discussion of Thursday, June 18, 1992. Due to the lack of accessibility of cabling to Pioneer Aviation from the alternative sites for the National Weather Service's (NWS) RAMOS weather instrument package, we will remove the RAMOS from the McCall Airport. In order to continue to support the Paid -A observation program at McCall, we will have the observers supplement the AWOS I instrument readings for the observation, and have the observation relayed to us via telephone calls. Obviously, this solution will be more labor intensive, regarding dissemination, for both Pioneer Aviation and the National Weather Service. I am still open to alternatives, which could be implemented at some later date. Conversations with Chuck Sundby of Toothman Orton Engineering Company, indicate that the City of McCall could make inquiry to the FAA about upgrading the AWOS I to an AWOS III configuration. I am interested in learning the possibilities of such an upgrade and the costs involved. The NWS might be able to financially support such an effort if the AWOS observation was disseminated long -line, and our costs were offset by elimination of the Paid -A program. Please let me know if this option is exrlored in the future. Thank you for your patience with us. I look forward to working with you to provide the best possible service to McCall. Sincerely, John A.nuzzi`- Area Manager/Meteorologist-in-Charge
