HomeMy Public PortalAbout02-012 RESOLUTION No. 02-012 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARSON,CALIFORNIA, SUPPORTING THE MOVEMENT AND ACT TO LEAVE NO CHILD BEHIND (S. 940/H.R. 1990) t WHEREAS, the Movement and Act to Leave No Child Behind is a proposed national policy vision that incorporates the best practices and programs to address the needs of America's children. { Representing a renewed commitment to our children, the Act will benefit every child in each of our cities across America. WHEREAS, the Act will provide children A Healthy Start by providing health coverage to all of America's 9.2 million uninsured children and their parents, and provide broad initiatives to address common childhood illnesses like asthma. WHEREAS, the Act will provide children A Head Start by ensuring full fanding for child care and Head Start for 3 and 4-year olds so that all children eligible for these benefits can be ready to learn. WHEREAS, the Act will provide children with A Fair Start by ensuring that hard working parents have the support they need to remain employed, and help lift themselves and their children out of poverty. WHEREAS, the Act will ensure that more children are in safe, nurturing, and permanent families. The legislation will also strengthen youth development efforts and address other critical safety issues, such as after-school summer jobs, gun violence, juvenile justice, and effective delinquency prevention programs. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Carson fully support the Movement and Act to Leave No Child Behind.
